  • Why I like Both Edwards

Hillary and Obama constantly repeat the words “change” and “new direction” while at the exact same time refusing to say anything that might offend the corporations – thus indicating an actual “change” and “new direction” as opposed to a rhetorical one.

It’s refreshing to hear at least one candidate and his spouse come right out and say, “Hey! You Big Insurance Company and you Big Oil Company! I will vow to support legislation that is in the best interest of the people and will cut your profits!”

What do you hear from Obama or Hillary? Vauge (very, very very vague) talk about doing “something” without (God forbid) saying anything specific like “I’m going to impose new taxes and regulations on power plants and industry so poor people living next to these businesses won’t automatically get cancer from the pollution!”

  • EE for President

I'm a liberal now living in AZ (after TX. Oh, I miss CA). Why doesn't EE run? In 2008 it might be the first time I've NOT voted in the Presidential election. I'm just NOT voting for Hillary. I'll sit it out. And I'm a liberal lesbian! Now if Bill could run . . .I'll reconsider.

I'm sitting this election out, for the first time in my life, if she gets the nomination. Mealy mouthed, talks out of both sides of her mouth . . .She sounds too Repub for me. Barack, no offense, as you do sound so wonderfully eloquent. It's not your time. Grow up, you're younger than me and I'm only 52. Love listening to you, but you're just "theater" to me. Not the black part, who cares what color you are, but you're still just "theater." I won't vote for you either.

If McCain had fought back in SC in 2000 he might have won the Repub nomination. Lots of Dems liked him. But he wussied out and has sinced aligned himself with Shrub and Dark Vader. Oh, well, thanks for your service to your country. By the way, how did the S&L scandal several decades ago turn out for you? Any jail time?

Oh, executive privilge in Pat Tillman's death? No wonder our Cardinals suck! Oh, Pat, we hardly knew ye.

Are there no statespeople in our country?

Immigration isn't the problem as much as the lack of health care for 45 to 47 million people. All of my friends are losing their pensions. Many worked for their companies for upwards of 20 years, some over 30. Three Firestone tires blew out on our truck, lucky we we'ren't injured or killed. Let's hear it for big business.

I don't want to have this happen to our readers. Oh, by the way, why can't I get health care benefits or SocSec from my partner.

Yeah, and I've got a right wing gay cousin working for one of the right wing members of congress running for Prez. Hmm, how hypocritical. I care more about straights and gays and families and everybody than that jerk.

Sorry, must go. I worry about my friends, coworkers, loved ones and our country more than the Repubs/Demos do.

  • Carolina not for John Edwards

As a Republican, I voted for John Edwards for North Carolina senator thinking he was young, exhuberant, excited to work for North Carolina. Talk about buyers remorse! Ask most North Carolinians, we all had buyers remorse! Didn't know he was going to run for president starting the day after the election. I think Elizabeth Edwards is very smart and a classy woman. But they just do not have a platform for this century. As far as the "Ann Coulter" debacle. I certainly don't find anything Ann has to say important, but I think Elizabeth would have been more credible calling in to a show where one of the vile democrats was a guest. If Elizabeth really wanted to move journalism and politics out of the gutter she should start with her own party. If you want to stop bad behavior don't talk to the neighbors about their behavior, start in your own family! Bill Mahr, Al Franken, Michael Moore, etc.

  • No big money quid pro quo with Edwards.

God, what a refreshing attitude. Candor!! Love it, I would vote for Edwards just on that basis alone or just on that fact that Elizabeth Edwards liked him enough to marry him. The truly sad part of a potential Edwards presidency would be that Elizabeth might not be there for the entire 8 years.

On another note: I think one of the reasons Edwards is not raising as many $$ is that big money donors know there will be no quid pro quo as there will with Clinton and Obama. What will you get for your $$? Well he's laid it out. A functionable healthcare policy and substantive anti-poverty measures as well as honest leadership. Well what good does that do big money? Hillary would be a legislative disaster and where big interestes largely craft (or at least have a big say in) legislation. With Obama, we can't tell yet, but he seems to be drifting that way, despite his better judgement. Plus I think he has a little too much Bill Clinton in him, that is he is an appeaser and compromiser and wants to please everyone. We need someone who has the inclination or just plain guts to make substantive changes.

I like Bloomberg for this very reason. He would note be beholding to anyone. He has his money. He doesn't need more and all he has to prove is that he can make things run better or solve practical problems.

At least in an Edwards-Bloomberg match-up I wouldn't panic if Edwards lost. Of course that is not going to happen, except in my dreams.....

I hope people will start getting behind Edwards. As Elizabeth said, he is the only one who has presented any real rationale for being president. The other majopr candidates seem mostly driven by personal ambition.

  • The Salon Interview with Edwards

After noting that the author misrepresented Ann Coulter's comments about Edwards in the first paragraph, I quickly scanned the rest of the article and determined it wasnt worth reading closely due to its illogical (aka liberal) bent. The only interesting news is that Mrs Edwards is attacking Hillary. Boy, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
