Wll, er, ah, not really.
Tom in La has it right.
Bryan, Coulter used a perfectly good rhetorical device for saying what she said about Edwards. If she REALLY wanted to call Edwards a faggot, she would have said, er, ah, "John Edwards is a faggot". Or if she wanted Edwards dead, she might have said, "I will kill John Edwards", er, ah, wait a minute, I think I am confusing that with leftist Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams (saying she could kill President Bush). Oh, the humanity.
To those who think Edwards is electable, er, ah, never mind, no hope.
I am neither Republican nor Democrat but will glady vore for Dr. Ron Paul if given the opportunity. The rest are a bunch of . . . nope, not going there!!

I wanna like them...
There's a very enticing combination here -- picking non-sexy issues and making them sexy (pretty much just by picking them), agressively challenging the front runners from the third place position when everyone else is more or less in a love-fest, speaking your mind without hesitation because you've confronted your own mortality. Part of me really cheers them on.
But I wonder about the tactic (I mean, it has to be a tactic, doesn't it?) of having Elizabeth veer considerably further to the left than her husband is willing to go on gay issues for example. I mean, SHE'S not running for anything, so what does that mean exactly? When Betty Ford proclaimed that she was in favor of the Equal Rights Amendment and abortion rights, that was a president's wife speaking her mind. When Elizabeth Edwards says she favors gay marriage while her husband supports only civil unions, I wonder if this isn't just pandering to the left during primary season, only to be replaced with a steely silence on this issue if her husband receives the nomination and has steer the whole campaing sharply back to center in order to win the election.

The Salon Interview: Elizabeth Edwards
Can't we admit Edwards & Edwards are not Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Haven't we grown tired of their amateur theatrics? Send them back to the sticks.
Puff and powder puffs. This wasn't an interview; nothing new,here. Nothing Elizabeth Edwards hasn't said before. Ms. Walsh should hand in her reporter's notebook, and admit she's nothing to report.

Typical left leaning interview, How about some context please?
Are you kidding, have you ever thought about putting what the context was of the following comments were..
"Coulter called John Edwards a "faggot" at a conservative conference in January, and joked in June about wishing he'd be assassinated"
Coulter did not joke about having Edwards assasinated and you know that to be the truth, if not, do your homework and rewrite what was stated in it's appropriate context. As for the "faggot" reference, you obviously did not look up the context of this either. Don't you remember something about therapy being in the quote and then refer back to what took place on the set of Gray's Anatomy and what steps the "homophobic" actor took to try regain favor with the cast.
By the way, do you think Coulter would be allowed to call a show Elizabeth Edwards was doing with only a few minutes notice before the interview took place? Wow, how brave Edwards was! If she did, she could release another fundraising video of Coulter while focusing on the "positive."

I am a liberal democrat but if Elizabeth Edwards think Gay marriage or anything Gay is ok she and others who believe like she does should read Romans Chapter 1 verses 22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31and 32.These verses lay it right out so anyone can understand it's wrong in the eyes of God

This is an interview, not an editorial
Walsh should try harder to keep her own opinions out of her interviews:
"The thing is, actually, she doesn't agree to many debates; it's very rare. She seems formidable, but she's a coward because she ducks debates."
"I was actually more sympathetic to her abortion speech than you, I think."
"You blogged on it on MyDD? That's funny."
Walsh is the journalist, not the subject. These statements do not help us learn Edwards's views. If anything, they distract us and possibly bias us for or against Edwards.

I'm seriously wondering about Democratic priorities right now
No gay people are going to die from not being able to get married. But I've seen at least one gay person die from a federal medical marijuana prosecution.
I don't understand why Ann Coulter and gay marriage are more important than medical marijuana.
I don't understand at all why the topic of medical marijuana has been so completely and utterly banned from Salon by Joan Walsh.

I can't imagine anyone but Drudge et al. readers coming on Salon and defending Ann Coulter.
Even using fancy semantics, no one can successfully argue that Coulter's opening remarks "almost" calling Edwards a faggot don't actually constitute her calling him a faggot. Her comments amount to: I think John Edwards is a faggot, but I won't say it straight out because oh, look, at the other person who used the word. But I definately think he's a faggot.
If, at 16, I had said to my mother, "Mom, I would call you a bitch-whore right now, but since I know I'll get in trouble, I won't."
You must smoking some cheap-ass crack to defend this statement. Ann Coulter is vile and Republicans are not doing themselves any favors standing by her.
Also, "liberal democrat" who cites bible verses in support of how "wrong" and "against god" homosexuality is...you are not a liberal democrat, you wouldn't know a liberal democrat if you ate one. You just said that thinking you might make yourself sound more credible. You don't. Go away.

Hooray for Elizabeth Edwards!!
A great interview. I'm a big John Edwards supporter in any event, but reading this interview makes me wish he could choose his wife as his Vice Presidential candidate. What a smart and down to earth woman.
