  • so refreshing

It's very refreshing to hear somebody who is a top adviser to a presidential campaign give a candid interview. I've really come to find the risk avoidance mentally that plagues political campaigns to be distasteful and seriously harmful to political discourse.

It was risky for Elizabeth Edwards to call in and confront Coulter. It's live program and anything could have happen. We all lose those if those in the political system take the safe path.

  • Dear Elizabeth Edwards:

    Dear Elizabeth Edwards:

Why don't you outline all the ways your husband is a great advocate for women, rather than try to tear Hillary down. I find your claim that John is a "better" advocate for women a little ridiculous, considering the "Edwards For Women" outreach was not even launched until you realized Hillary had made the initial outreach to women.

    Monkey see. Monkey do.

  • election 2008

She'd be a candidate I would feel proud to work (and vote) for, and I definitely look forward to hearing from her in the future!

  • Elizabeth

If John Edwards is a "better choice for women" than Hillary, then why does Hillary get the overwhelming majority of female support? Is it because women haven't heard John Edwards message? Is it because women are smart enough to make the decision themselves and have chosen Hillary?

Or is it because John Edwards campaign is seriously treading water right now. I have never heard Hillary put down John or Elizabeth Edwards.

Have some class Elizabeth. We know you can do it.

I also agree with Senator Dodd when he stated that the man who gets into a publicized fight with Ann Coulter will not become President.

  • Here's to Candor, Courage (both public and personal) and Elizabeth

There is just no replacing the appeal of an honest person with good values in a public forum. I applaud Elizabeth's choices and courage in the media. I'm surprised John isn't doing better among the field of Dems. I recommend he get a crew cut, and hope to hear plenty more from Elizabeth!

  • The unasked question; what about the other spouses?

I like what I read in this article, but I just wonder whether/if the other candidate spouses would do anything to compare. Obviously, Hillary Clinton's spouse doesn't need any help there, but what about the others?

And yes, we're not voting for the President's Spouse, but Elizabeth Edwards is very impressive. I'd even say more impressive than Hillary Clinton's appearance during her husband's term of office. Given that most Presidential wives are basically there to prove that their husbands aren't gay, and don't do much besides flower arranging, having a potential First Lady with intelligence and spirit might be a deciding factor.

  • fantastic interview

What a fantastic interview with a well-spoken, intelligent woman.

It is a shame that John Edwards isn't a black woman, because that's the only way he could possibly garner as much media attention as the Hillary/Obama circus. The MSM has lead us all to believe that the democratic nomination is a 2 horse race, which is a crying shame. Personally, I believe Edwards would make the best president of them all, but I have a lot of doubts that he will get the chance.

I was especially moved by what Elizabeth had to say regarding the 'you're a woman, and a feminist, so you MUST be voting for Hilary' kind of garbage. I will NOT be voting for Hilary. She absolutely grates upon me, and her stance on many issues strikes me as condescending. That is my opinion, and many will disagree. However, I feel like the people who want to vote for her just to see a woman in the top office are missing the point. You should vote for who you believe the best candidate is, who will represent you best. Just because we both share some X chromosomes doesn't mean ol Hil is going to represent me best.

It'd be nice to see Salon do a graphical comparison on what the democratic candidates takes are on some of the big poll issues. Gay marriage, abortion, and healthcare would be some... but so would income tax, censorship, copyright legislation, education, foregin policy, etc. I'd like to see a neutral source lay out a comparison of what their different approaches are to all the issues, not just the 'sexy' ones.

  • Edwards

I just adore her completely. And I am sure her husband John is the most substantive candidate I've heard from yet.

I'd be delighted to have Mr. Edward's campaign get as much coverage in Salon as do Senators Obama and Clinton do.

  • Elizabeth Edwards-thank you for your courage.

The Democrats are at long last blessed with an overwhelming number of qualified candidates for President, but the most outstanding element of the 2008 campaign is Elizabeth Edwards contribution to the national debate. Thank you for your candor, courage, and common sense--and thanks for confronting Ann Coulter. That was long overdue!

  • That was a really tough, hard-hitting interview.

[Yawn.] Nothing about the $480,000 gig with the Cayman Island hedge fund. No details on Fortress Investment Group LLC. Nothing about medical mapractice and tort reform. Nothing about the laundered donations from trial lawyers in '04.

I am willing to bet that Ann Coulter's attitude toward this woman is that she'd debate her anytime, anywhere. The problem might be the Edwards campaign's open confession that they use confrontations with Ann Coulter for campaign donations. If I were Ann Coulter, I'd decline on that basis alone.

  • Classy lady

what a classy lady, I was already planning on voting for Edwards in the primary, but the fact that he has such a fantastic wife is just icing on the cake. I don't blame her for wanting to tell off that vile c--t, Ann Coulter, but really, everybody knows Coulter is just a sideshow freak, even she knows it. Coulter saying the terrible things she does makes her a lot of money, but probably helps democrats, go on Ann, keep calling people "faggot", yammering that widows are happy that their husbands burned to death, and wishing death on your political opponents, it might make the yokels laugh, but it turns normal people against you.

  • Joan Walsh is not a very kind interviewer, at least to Elizabeth Edwards.

After reviewing this interview, I don't know why I just can sense Joan Walsh is not very kind and sensitive towards Elizabeth Edwards.

She sounds like she has no sympathy for someone who is undergoing cancer. I would be much more respectful towards someone who is living through cancer while campainging--a stressful job--for her husband. Joan's question implies that she doesn't sympathize this but is spectical.

For some reasons, I can signal there is certain harshness in the tone of the questions. Maybe Joan is just a little bit snob since Edwards has so far been behind Hillary and Obama. I don't know why, I just don't appreciate Joan's way of asking Mrs. Edwards questions or her way of framing the questions. Many questions could be framed in a positive tone, instead of negative and harsh.

For that reason, I have decided not to like Joan Walsh as a person.
