Could you have found an uglier picture of Giuliani? He looks like il Duce.
-
Reaganesque?
That must be a made-up Republican word. Just say he's like Reagan. Why the -esque? I hate the sound of it. I'm tired of hearing it. The way your nominees support the administration, describe them as Bushesque and Cheneyesque.
What the hell does it mean, anyway? How many times has a student in 2007 seen Ronald Reagan? Must be brain-washed.

Honesty and peacefulness sound nice for a change.
Not that I believe for a second that he'd actually govern this way, but I do like his statement that a government that is honest and peaceful is the one upholding Christian values. Christianity could use a good dose of that these days. Then again, so could our government. Moreso even.
And let's not assume that evangelicals actually vote in lockstep. There's more diversity in their ranks than we think.

I Can't Believe He Said That
You can't possibly describe Judeo-Christian values in one lesson or two or three, but if there was one, it would probably be Jesus' admonition that you would be judged based on how you treat others and I would try to exemplify that... Rudy Giuliani
That is HILARIOUS! I can't believe he said that with a straight face. This is the guy who got his friend the pedophile priest to help him get an annulment from his first wife - an annulment she fought. He led a pack of journalists through his Upper East Side neighborhood as he paraded around with one of his mistresses and announced he was getting a divorce without telling his second wife. His second wife had to go to court to prevent Rudy from bringing his mistress into Gracie mansion where he had been banging her while the kids were upstairs. This is a man who lied about and covered up his own father's violent criminal past, yet crowed in a press conference that the security guard who had been accidentally shot and killed by narcs had had a sealed juvenile record years before. This same man, who exposed the juvenile past of a dead security guard who had long ago straightened out his life, begged for "family privacy" when one of his kids nonchalantly admitted that he doesn't have much to do with his father (the father who was banging his girlfriends downstairs while he, his mother and his sister were in the house.. remember?).
This guy thinks he can channel Jesus Christ's admonition to treat others as he has treated them.
Rudy Giuliani?
You're going straight to hell!

Lets Hope Rudy gets the GOP nod...a then a true right wing nut job mounts a 3rd party run and splits the Republican vote
...and BTW, just to be clear, Rudy isn't a true right wing nut job. Nope, Rudy is a pragmatic, morally flexible fascist who digs power for power sake. If Uncle Dick scares you, imagine Rudy with secret police and W's legacy to bounce off and start goose-stepping. Rudy will wipe away civil liberties with the same fervor he used to clean up Times Square.

I had the same reaction to "Reaganesque"
Someone who is a college student now can barely have been out of diapers when Reagan was in office and even close to mentally coherent, so how much can he possibly know about him from personal experience, really? The deep indoctrination of young Republicans by their elder masters is more than a little creepy.

Like A Pilgrimage To Graceland
Watching the Repooplican candidates form a dutiful line to buss the butts of the Religious Right and swear a feckless fealty to their "principles" reeks of the politics of unctuousness.
Like the proverbial pilgrimage to Graceland by the double-wide trailer set, these purveyors of piety believe that appearing before them...on bended knee...will cause their average slack-jawed syncophant to vote for the "blessed and approved" candidate...therefore rendering themselves Caesar...or, Pontius Pilate.
The late-lamented John McCain had it about right when he referred to them as "intolerent bigots", in so many words. He was chastened, declared himself a sinner for having doubted their Godliness and groveled at their feet, begging forgiveness. Too bad he didn't excercise the same backbone with the Religious Right that he did with his North Vietnamese captors.
I'd have more respect for any of these vascillating and vacuous Repooplican candidates if they would simply be true to their original principles; deserting long-held moral stands on issues simply to win over a group of voters speaks volumes about that candidates lack of fortitude.
George Herbert Walker Bush...a long-standing friend of my family and recipient of much campaign contributions from them...abandoned his long-standing advocacy of a woman's right to choose in order to be Vice-President under Ronald Reagan. Jerry fallwell's so-called Moral majority had demanded that Reagan extract that promise from Bush before he would be deemed "acceptable" to the Religious Right in the 1980 election.
We wrote off George Herbert Walker Bush as a recipient of our largesse shortly thereafter. Mr. Giuliani will soon find himself in a similar position...seen by both sides of the political spectrum as simply an opportunist and possessing a backbone consisting of moist macaroni.

What did he wear to dinner with Pat Robertson?
His Marilyn outfit?

Marshall McLuhan knew
white evangelicals ... broke for [George W. Bush] over Democratic candidate Sen. John Kerry 78 percent to 21 percent ... Fox News viewers, who went 88 to 7 for Bush
Congratulations, mass media! You are now a more effective brain-deading opiate than fundamentalist religion.
Mission accomplished, one might say.

"Judeo Christian Values" is repug code for "Extending the Dictatorship"
Don't be fooled by "social conservatives." The right-wing authoritarian sheep want a mean 'ol daddy who will whip their bottoms hard and keep mommy barefoot, pregnant and silent in the kitchen.
They'll forgive anything - abortions, gay roommates, cross-dressing - from the candidate who will keep torturing muslims and other sub-humans.
Rudy is a sociopathic monster, but he's the only repug candidate smart enough to have figured this out.

Don't Ask Rudy About The Other "A" Word, Either
Adultery, a concept with which he appears to have first-hand experience.

a word from the semantics police
I am always amazed at people who speak about "Judeo-Christian" values and then use Jesus Christ to describe them.
Jews did (and do) not believe Jesus Christ was the messiah. (Duh). They thought (and think) he was a nice, but confused, rabble-rousing, Jewish boy. Unless they are members of "Jews for Jesus."
The Jews and the Christians share the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. If one wants to make references to Judeo-Christian values, they should refer to the Old Testament. I therefore suspect when people talk about Judeo-Christian values, they really mean Christian values. "Judeo-Christian" is a figleaf, much like "some of my best friends are ..." .
I still am not clear what a "Christian value" is. Given how many politicized Christians behave to the poor and the sick, I'm pretty sure it has little to do with the Sermon on the Mount, or any of the dozens of directives from Chriist for people to take care of each other. I'm also pretty sure that Catholic values, Lutheran values, Mormon values, and Unitarian values (whatver any of those might be) aren't "Christian values" either, unless they happen to coincide with Evangelical Protestant values.
As near as I can tell, "Christian values" seems to mean vote conservative republican, strip everyone except white Christian males of most of their rights, relegate women to brood-mare status, hold the rest of the world in contempt, destroy the planet, and allow the spiritual and political leaders to behave like the denizens of "Animal House."
