ILLIGALS IN THE USA
the way i see all the illigal immigrants is somewhat different
i do understand they are compeating with local workers and dive the wages down But who benefits from this? companies and the rich who now get their jobs done for peanuts!
why are so many illigals in america? simple american foreign policy! who you guys think installs their "demogratic" governmets? n runs their country? bleeds their country dry?
so they have no choice but to work for starving wages?
is there any difference to the war to "liberate iraq"? the poor pay taxes their taxes pays for thew army upkeep wages food clothes ammunition, rich usually hardly pay any tax (in the UK one man paid himself n his family £1.2 yes n never paid a panny tax why? all the shares are owned by his wife n she lives in Monaco! the BBC we are rich we pay NO tax!!
same in america after all we are the free "demogracies of the world"! the poor americans many have little choice but to join the army they fight n many died even worse get maimed for life
the poor workers paid with their taxes n the rich republicans make billions from the arms indusry they own the rich oil barrons make even more from iraqi oil paid for with the poor workers taxes n blood!
BUT as they totally control the news media any man who says anything against what goes on he is a LIBTARD A COWARD A TRAITOR EVEN! guys the right wing neocons n their multinational allies got you by the balls they squezz u dance how many rich republicans fought n died in the war they insticated n fabricated for their own greed?? in iraq/agfanistan? who you think makes all the profit from chinese goods? not the chinese workers they don't they work in even worse conditions american workers do !!
why can't you see who the real enemy of america is? in the so called richest country in the world to have 55 millioin americans without even medical cover is criminal the $5 minimum wage is also a crime the main reason therepublicans want illigals in the country is your country take it back this is not what america is suppose to stand for is it?
this is Not what WW2 american heros died for i bet they are turning in their graves

ONE CORRECTION WHAT I SAID ABOUT THE RICH IN THE UK PAYING NO TAX ONE MAN WHO PAID HIMSELF AND FAMILY it was £1.2 BILLION YES THAT MUCH WITHOUT PAYING A SINGLE PENNY TAX YET HE EARNED HIS MONEY IN BRITAIN!
No wonder the british establishment was ready to have a military take over if the labour prime minister Harold Wilson won the election against tory Edward Heath the BBC Harold Wilson closed every loophole the rich n powerful had not to pay tax MI 5 went to see the queen mother to get her approval of a military coup if he won!!!!!!
But the right wign news media made sure he lost they are allowed to print front page lies for weeks on end n then printa two sentense appology in the middle pages no one reads N BY DOING THAT THEY ARE CLEAR WITHING THE LAW! WHAT LAW??????

Uh yeah, but...
Also, west coast and upper east coast housing prices don't necessarily reflect those for the 200,000,000 of us in between.
I never once said they did. However, my point was that California probably has the highest number of illegal immigrants and yet most of us here couldn't even dream of getting a five-bedroom house for as low a price as you describe.
I don't think illegal immigrant workers lower the housing prices one bit. Houses in California are incredibly expensive (a four-bedroom/two-bath can go for $1.5 million; the house you describe can go for as much as $2 million-plus) whether illegal workers build them or not, because housing in California is in very high demand. Go to a state with a lower population, like South Dakota, and it's not surprising that you could get a five-bedroom palace for $400,000 or less.

adam smith and ajbuckle
Ajbuckle, I never wrote that Adam Smith advocated open borders. What he did argue for was the free trade of goods, but what has happened is that goods and capital now move freely and labor doesn't. There is a free market argument to be made that if capital can cross borders largely without impediment, so too should labor - in other words, people can chase the money. That is NOT a left wing argument, it is a logical extension of liberal capitalist thinking, in the terminology of political philosophy.
As for what you call the result of "outsourcing" on American manufacturing, it's called market pressure, and it doesn't just happen with jobs going outside the US. For instance, in the last 10 plus years, Ford and GM have been closing plants in the Midwest and elsewhere, and BMW and Mercedes have opened them in the south. Does that mean that Michigan should try and stop Ford from closing plants and moving production elsewhere?
You can't conflate illegal immigration with the declining competitiveness of some sectors of the US economy, because there's no relationship. Illegal immigration exacerbates the downward slide of American citizens in economic terms, but Diego and Herman aren't the ones who screwed up GM, for instance.
Look, I know this isn't easy, but it's life. My father was an apprentice accountant in the Glasgow ship yards in the 60s... they were part of an industrial city that at one point made 1.4 of the rails for train networks in the world. When he goes back now, there's maybe one ship yard left. It's called competition, and the effects for the people left behind are awful.
However, getting rid of illegal immigrants isn't going to change one single thing about what causes American citizens to be at risk in certain types of jobs - if anything, inflation would put them more at risk. There is no good solution, and the sooner that people admit that we're picking the least bad option and a critical component is what the costs will be, the better.
