Optomist, there's a mist over your optos
If everyone in the country paid the same attention to politics as "the idiots in Iowa," we wouldn't have this problem. I've lived in most parts of the country, and never seen another state where national politics is a participation sport.
That's why John Edwards has been the leader in Iowa for nearly a year. Hillary is third after Obama, with Richardson pulling up fast.
And the first time GWB ran, Al Gore took the state.
Should have listened to us. But you did.

What's most important
I think this trashing of Sen. Clinton is crazy. It's like the past 6 1/2 years hasn't happened, and we have the luxury of picking the perfect candidate. We don't. The only thing important is to NOT elect another republican.
I think most of the negatives for Clinton are cases of projection or misinformation. Beware all the right-wing and idiot MSM characterizations that you may be falling for. Drop everything you THINK you know about her, and just judge for yourself with some dispassionate study. I doubt you'll see her the same way. If after that you still think she's some unelectable harpy, have at it.
I for one think she'd make a fine president, but she only has to be moderately good to make a gigantic improvement over the nightmare we have now. That's all I care about, get the assholes out.
If Sen. Clinton becomes the democratic nominee, I'm going to vote for her. If Edwards or Obama become the nominee, I'll vote for either of them. Thankfully we don't have to worry about Lieberman, because he's definitely one I'd have to think long and hard about (the only thing in his favor would be he doesn't [so far] have -R after his name), and I'm sure I could not vote for him, since he's a traitor in every meaning of the word.
So, please keep your wits about you, everyone, and vote for whoever the democrat is. That's the only real choice we have. It's not a choice between the perfect candidate and someone else, it's between continued nightmare of more republicans, and the democrat. That should be everyone's focus. I understand having a debate about who among our choices would be the best democrat, the top 3 choices would all make a plenty good enough candidate. This demonizing of any of them, however, is reckless, and to me, foolish.

Hillary...more or less?
Let's see...it is now late June 2007. One year from now the November 2008 elections are still several months away.
It is damn sure lots of stuff could(likely may) hit the fan betwixt here and there.(another Cheney ME Oil War anyone?)Sen.Clintons record on Iraq is not one of clear, outfront heads up foresight or laser sharp position taking. She is no Russ Feingold. On Iraq Sen.Clinton has been about mid-pack more often than not.
Whoever gets to the Oval Office in late Jan.2009 needs to be better than that.
Lots better.
Then there is the global climate challenge, the growing wealth gap, energy evolution/revolution,a national healthcare plan and several more in train as well.
The GOP/corporatists/militarists will try to gum it up as good as they can. The MSM surely will help them with that gambit.RightRadio,FOXNEWS and the Kristol/Kagan gang will go into warp drive to muck matters up as they best can.
Count on it.
I like Hillary. I was very sympathetic when Bill messed up so bad. That had to be the most difficult of situations to endure in such intense public ways.
I was happy for Hillary when she became a senator from NY state. She has done ok as a U.S. Senator.
Senator Clinton has had lots of national face time, name time, game time and money time. That is factual. Being Mrs.Bill Clinton made that--makes this so.
I am happy for her. I wish her well.
Problem is something is not clicking here despite all that.
Senator Clinton has some time still remaining to win me over but she will have to work for my vote. I do not think I am alone in thinking this way.
It is certifiable that G.W.Bush was a big mistake. Big mistake.
It is very early to be looking at Feb.2009 and Hillary still has a ways to go.
We all do for that matter.
Bush/Cheney are not done "deciding" about matters in Iraq and the ME. Being the grenade pin-puller lobbing nutjobs they are that is damn scary too. Damn scary.

give her an A
OK Walt,
Big whoop...we arent electing either the class valedictorian or the Big Woman on Campus, for which Hillary is immently qualified. The woman may hit all the right notes, but she cant see the forest for the trees. She has no real humility, but works hard at it since as Bill said, sincerity is the hardest thing to fake. No I dont like her. I dont like her because she lied about cattle futures. She lied about law office records. She is duplicitous and would do anything to get elected. She like Bill wont get out of bed in the morning without thrusting a finger in the air to gauge wind direction. She will firmly plant herself in the center of where the most votes are regardless of personal preference witness the vote on Iraq where another lie has surfaced in that she didnt even read the NIE. She didnt need to. Bill told her which to position herself for down the road. Trouble is, it backfired didnt it. Her lameass excuse now is, as was Kerry's, that it wasnt a vote to go to war, and that Bush violated the authorization. Gee theres a shocker. Hillary adds another lie to the pile of whoppers since she voted against an amendment that would have done exactly what she said she intended but really didnt.
But beyond all that, she has no drive to do something. She has a drive to be something. Havent we had enough of power seekers, like all of the candidates running except Obama and Kucinich and maybe one or two more. No more wannabes. No more lies. No more duplicitous lying two faced pols who dazzle Walt with her preparation...her preparation for the job has been 30 years of being around Bill. Enough already.
