Where are those nephilim?
What, no nephilim exhibit? They are the demi-god giants that raped the human women after the fall. Let me quote some Genesis 6 to y'all.
"There were giants [nephilim] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
I don't think they are Sunday school favorites. I certainly didn't hear about them. I guess the Creation Museum is avoiding them also since they sound sort of, you know, mythical.

Intelligent Design is Creationism
Intellgent Design is just Creationism repackaged to sound more intelligent, which it is NOT!!!

What about the "gaps" in the biblical record?
I think it is rather telling that the only person who tried to defend this place used an emotional argument instead of a technical one:
Children should be taught creationism because it will prevent school shootings, not because it's supported by facts (because it's not).
And they didn't use their real name to boot! If this is the strongest argument anyone can muster for this place, then they have more problems to worry about then what we think of them. If these people are so sure that their religion is the truth, why don't they spend as much time looking into the history of the bible as they spend on looking for historical fallacies in the fossil record? Probably because they already know what they would find, even less evidence to support it then evolution has.

Why Museum?
Wouldn't all us liberals be happy if they called it "The Creation Faith Center" or something? I think it's the word "Museum" that's bothering us all. It's the reappropriation of a word.
Here are some quick on-line definitions of "museum":
A museum is typically a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and of its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits, for purposes of study, education enjoyment, the tangible and intangible evidence of people and their environment." This definition is taken from the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Statutes
a depository for collecting and displaying objects having scientific or historical or artistic value (wordnet at princeton.edu)
A building serving as a repository for a collection of natural, scientific, historic or literary curiosities or objects of interests or works of art and designed to be viewed by members of the public.
And there are many more. While the Creation MUseum does fit some criteria in these definitions, it misses in the key point of a place that presents knowledge. Nowhere in hese definitions do the words "faith" or "religion" or "dogma" come into play. Museums aren't places where we look at a complete lack of evidence to a hypothesis and say "this is truth."

The Flintstones --> A Documentary!
It really is time to be afraid, but not for the reasons George Bush and his regime keep throwing at us. The ignorance they manifestly demonstrate: of other cultures, of history, and of science, have put our country in grave danger.
Now this silly "museum" for crackpots is just more of the same. How did we get here? How far are we going? I think we are soon to be a failed empire, and we have greed, narcissism and ignorance to blame.

How many museums do you know that have an entire wing dedicated to why opposition to their views is bad?
The thing that struck me the most about this place was an entire wing dedicated to the "evils" in society supposedly created by the acceptance of evolution. This should tell you right there what the real objective of this place is, it aint to present an "alternative theory".
In the interest of fairness, I think the nations natural history museums should have to build a wing dedicated to the "evils" of accepting creationism. That way people get a REAL balanced view. You could have a section on the inquisition, or witch burnings, or that gay kid that was flogged to death in Wyoming about ten years ago. That way people get a fair and balanced look at what the world run by creationists would, and did at one point in time, really look like.

Rolyn, et al
According to the legend, the Garden of Eden was in present-day Iraq or Iran. Last time I checked, that was in Asia, not Africa. So that's why. But nice to see that you've got your racism accusation always cocked & loaded.

Is There a Big, Invisible, All-Powerful Guy Up In The Sky Or Not?
I am tired of people trying to corrupt science with religion- "Yes, I am a Christian, but I believe that God stirred up primate DNA especially to make us precious, special, humans- everything else was natural selection." "Creation Was the Big Bang- see, it all fits together". No it doesn't! You guys are just hedging your bets. You don't really belive in science or you would not keep trying to credit "God" with some aspects of "creation". Get off the fence or you might as well climb over the spiked one into the arms of the guards and attack dogs. The Grand Canyon carved out in a week when the flood drained away (to where, by the way? The Hollow Earth?) Nonsense.

re: wonderful freedom
Why the red star, Salon? This writer (and possibly the editor) seems to have forgotten that some Americans in this country DO NOT have the freedoms they should have, due to these religious, idiotic fanatics.
It's these extremist views and fanatics that are littered throughout the current administration, working day and night to erase separation of church and state, to put a woman's life at risk by interfering with her doctor's decision, to keep discrimination against gays and lesbians legal.
If everyone had the same freedoms, then, yes - let these logic challenged ostriches build whatever they want. However, it is this pure ignorance and assault on reason that is keeping other Americans from being able to have the same legal protection under the law as any other citizens in this country.
By your reasoning, the KKK should be able to march in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

counting generations
Boy o boy. Just when I thought America had reached the absolute bottom of the stupidity bucket with American Idol and president Bush,
Now this whole Creation Musuem has me wondering whether may passport has expired.
Anyhow... just for s+g's I did some quick little math. A distant previous post had mentioned that there must've been a wicked lot of begetting in the past 6000 years to go from 2 to 6+ billion people.
Well, if a set starts with 2 units and that number doubles with each generation then the total should top 8 billion in about 32 generations. Too bad adam and eve didn't even hold up there requirement of 4 kids, they only had three, and gee if one didn't turn out to be a murdurer. Great parenting!
Anyhow, at say 25 years per generation that'd be about 800 years. Very do-able.
Yes we all know this creationism crap is, well... crap. I just don't understand where these fundy christians get all of their hate from. Were they held enough as kids? What's so terrible about being descended from apes? Apes are cool. I'm glad I'm an ape. Go look at a gorilla and tell me that's not a bad-ass looking thing to be related to. And orangutans, c'mon, Every Which Way But Loose - nuff said!
I'm an ape. You're an ape. The Pope's and ape.
Hey, that'd make a great bumper sticker. "The Pope's an ape."
I just feel bad for our relatives- the gorillas, chimps, orangs, and bonobos. Not to mention our distant second-cousins the monkeys. I feel like they're the ones who should be ashamed to be related to us. It's no wonder we never get invited to the family reunions.
