An uncomfortable day of testimony secure in the knowledge that Bush won't fire them because they are doing exactly what he wants?
Unless Congress starts making consequences happen there won't be any...
The thing that still amazes me is the whole world and his dog know he is lying, and yet he still lies, that is the hallmark of this misadmininistration, they remind me of me, when I was 3, when I swore blind that it wasn't me who took the chocolate bar, even though I had chocolate all round my mouth, I was 3, not some of the most powerful people in the world for gods sake.
Well, I can foresee a scenario in which Congress (both houses) may have enough investigations and hearings to come... that Gonzales may not be able to get anything else done. What with testifying and preparing to testify, and then testifying again, etc., etc.
Of course, for the rest of us, that may have its benefits. Less time for him to spend trampling all over the Constitution.
Tell the story straight, or suffer the consequences.
The problem is, for Bush officials, telling the story straight amounts to a confession.
From The Los Angeles Times 19 April 2007:
Still, after the testimony, President Bush expressed continued confidence in his attorney general. "President Bush was pleased with the attorney general's testimony today," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said in a statement. "After hours of testimony in which he answered all of the senators' questions and provided thousands of pages of documents, he again showed that nothing improper occurred."
Noting that Gonzales "admitted the matter could have been handled much better," Perino said, "The attorney general has the full confidence of the president."

It is déjà vu all over again.
Tacobellgrande Gonzales is no different than the rest of the pack of lieing jackals that run our country. They have no shame, no conscience. Impeachment should have begun long ago. Start now. George is complicit in so many crimes it's hard to keep track of them all. They have trampled the Constitution, and then hide behind it like two year olds with a diaper load. Orange jump suits for every damned one of them.
I'm waiting for a Senator to ask him why he should be thought competent to hold office given his health problems are causing these severe memory lapses.
And after the fun interrogations the question remains will anything other than posturing come out of this.
All the years as the CIA's man in Congress - since Jerry went to the WH, and Gonzo doesn't even get prepped on that fact. Arlen has been busy covering for the Jack Kennedy assasination and countless more issues and here at his hearing this twerp from the Skipper administration goes and smarts off.
Look, the CIA and the US Army are done with these guys.
They are pulling all the power back to the Legislative branch that they can whether in the minority or not, cause they know their party will not hold the WH next time.
It's the days of Watergate all over again.

It looks like Gonzales' hands were slapped pretty hard. So what. Will there be a vote to fire him? Will there be a public outcry for his resignation? If so, will it matter?
The highest law enforcer in the land (other than the new office of Chief "Decider") is steeped in scandal and has been caught lying through his teeth and arrogantly sticking to his story of not having a story. So what will happen now?
President Clinton lied about a personal matter and was subsequently impeached. AG Gonzales makes no attempt to hide his servitude to the Bush Administration while showing contempt for Congress. He lied to Congress about his actions by which he used his office to politicize a supposedly independent branch of government. There is no contest as to which is more aggregious. So will Gonzales get burned at the stake? Probably not, the Administration will probably try to divert our attention with gay marriage or immigration issues.
We will see.

"And those who come next may find the U.S. attorneys debacle instructive: Tell the story straight, or suffer the consequences"
What consequences?
No one can get rid of him except for Bush.
The public is learning a bitter lesson: democracy demands vigilance, or people will abuse it. It's too late to get Bush and co. Evil people can get away with evil. Life isn't fair.
Unless by some miracle the public pressures Congress to turn on the WH.
MEANWHILE, the WAR rages on. And Dubya talk about his f*cking "legacy" at a high school gym in Boehner country. And the NRA shrugs.
One of the worst weeks for our country I can remember.
See, I told ya. This man cannot tell the truth. You don't even have to ask him about the atty firings. Just ask him simple arithmetic questions and he'll give a different answer every time. Just be glad you're not his wife.
So where's the Independent Prosecutor?!? Do we need the ... JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ... to hire one!?!?! How about that $93 million that was burned to harass Bill Clinton, can we start with a budget like that?
These guys can all be thrown into the bighouse for perjury just like Scooter. All you have to do is swear them in, and then start asking them simple questions. Soon enough, their noses will be banging into the microphone.
I say, Cheney next. Kucinich has already started the process. You know the fire drill.
Oh my Gawd. I read and think what? Do we have to take our 50 year old asses into the streets of our nation's capitol and get this 60 year old squad of chickenhawks out or what?
I'm ready to do three or four weeks time to get the job done - easy. Fast Buck Freddie and the neocons are my natually sworn enemies and the Tory's can kiss my ass.
We're comin for our country!
Tell me what date and I'm there.
Great post from Political Orphan at ThinkProgress.org articulates exactly what I feel about all of this:
"
The most infuriating thing about all that has happened since Bush took office is the fact that no matter what happens, no matter how outraged anyone gets - life just lumbers on steadily, business as usual. This administration needs to be run out on a rail, prosecuted, and publicly punished. But all that will happen is that the term will run out and they will all go on to the next thing, oblivious to what they’ve done and protected from the public eye for the rest of their lives. We’ll continue fuming on blogs and popping gaskets any time the subject is brought up, but nothing will actually happen. This is what our country does to its traitors."
