Letters to the Editor

This letter is associated with the following article:
Monday's shooting at Virginia Tech is a reminder that the party that once championed gun control has been running away from it since the 2000 election.
  • This is just too good

    In response to RealName, above:

"1. Let's make it illegal for people under 21 to drink so there won't be any alcohol related deaths on American campuses.

We actually do and such bans in fact work. Also we put quality standards on alcohol so that people don't drink battery acid."

This has to be the funniest thing I have ever read in Salon. Seriously, Joan is probably looking up your phone number right now so they can get rid of Paglia. If you really believe what you wrote then you really need to go outside.

"2. Let's ban drugs so there will be no more drug related crime.

We do ban drugs, one can argue it's a failure but you in fact have no way of knowing what would happen if heroin crack and meth were legal."

    A non-response if I've ever seen one.

"3. While we're at it, let's make drunk driving illegal. That will "save" lots of lives.

About half of the people who were killed wrecks compared to 1975. Plus we require people to wear seatbelts which also save lives."

Neither of which relates to the illegality of drunk driving.

You seem very devoted to keeping your head in the sand on this one, especially considering the inflammatory remarks you've felt the need to post every page or so to try and get someone to play with you. Well, I guess it worked.

I lost a friend on Monday and all of this doesn't mean anything to me. How did this guy slip through the cracks? That's all I really wonder these days...
