"The left has not yet produced a comparable army of sirens. "
Of course not. Feminism is one of the pillars of the left. The left would blow apart if it made it its business to objectify women. The right, on the other hand, is prepared to oppress women, and objectifying them is perfectly all right by their ethos.
All of these sirens are all about sex, all the time. When Marsden puts down foreigners, for example, she is taking on the role of trophy wife. A trophy wife is a way for an insecure man to gain status. Husbands love it when their trophy wives treat others with scorn; it is a way for them to bask in vicarious beauty. The husband watches his woman treat someone like dirt, and then takes her home and screws her. He dominates her by objectifying her; she dominates everyone else.
Marsden, and Coulter, et. al., are high school mean girls grown up into trophy wives. The GOP will always marry such women because it enjoys watching them down people it would never have the gall to insult itself.

Marsden & O'Reilly 4-ever
I see in my crystal ball a Lifetime movie . . . one of the Desperate Housewives as Marsden, and maybe James Woods as O'Reilly. Can't miss.

Envy
Envy is one of the more reprehensible sins and there is much of it on display here. I would be willing to bet that the writer of this article has been toiling in obscurity for many years and has had little success outside of her online pulpit. Ms. Marsden obviously has some difficulties in her private life but the level of vitriol expressed by the author makes me question her motives. With hundreds of television pundits to choose from Ms. Traister chooses to vilify a relatively obscure commentator with little public influence. It makes me ponder whether their respective paths have crossed at some point and this article is some sort of retribution.

I wonder
if Fox News hired her in spite of her record because they consider sexual obsessiveness and stalking to be normal female behavior? After all, everyone knows that all women are emotionally unhinged to some degree, so why worry about it? She's hot and she has a catty, snarky mouth, which Ann Coulter has already proven are an easy sell. The rest is irrelevant because chicks pull that crap all the time. Everyone knows that.
If I'm right, it's an attitude far more damaging than anything that might Ms Marsden might have to say.

Ghosts from the past.
Oy. I went to SFU during this scandal and while it's true that the women's organizations on campus came to support Marsden for one period of time, a lot of radical women (such as myself) veered from discussing or engaging with the case because even from the beginning something about it didn't seem quite right. Marsden *never* identified with feminism or feminist groups, even in her wailing for support period, and always seemed concerned only with her own situation - never commenting on the campus situation - even though just a year before the situation with Donnelly erupted, there had been a pornography scandal involving members of the Simon Fraser Student Society.
But all that aside, her craziness, her stalking - how can anyone construe a known and proven liar as someone who has enough integrity to be considered a journalist? I know we are talking FOX News here - but still - it's a little disingenuous for any organization to claim that a past involving criminal dishonesty shouldn't be something taken into account when hiring people in the journalistic profession.
And - to the person who questioned Rebecca's claim that SFU was considered progressive because of the "Simon Fraser Institute" - I will jump to her defense here and say that SFU was founded on very open and radical goals and in the late sixties, early seventies was *the* hotbed of radicalism in Vancouver at that time (until the big purge of Marxist professors in the late 70s). Even now that it has gotten more conservative (as all Canadian universities have), it is still seen as a more progressive institution with more working class students than its Vancouver counterpart UBC. And there is no "Simon Fraser Institute" - it's the Fraser Institute and it has no affiliation with the University - nor has it ever. (And what prominent Canadian conservatives went to SFU other than a few BC Liberal Party members? I'm curious. It certainly isn't celebrated in any of the university's literature).

It was said best. . .
. . .and I'm sure someone has already said it, but, here goes, "A little bit nutty and a little bit slutty."

But can her collarbone slice a pineapple in midair?
"Stevenson said she was "aware" of Marsden's history in Canada, and added that "we make no story selection based on her past or anyone else's past. I don't think I've ever seen her be unfair about any type of story that might tread near those waters."
So which is it?
That Fox is routinely unfair about issues not directly related to a "contributor"'s past or...
That their definition of "fair" (and presumably, "balanced") have been skewed all along?

I LOVE FOX NEWS
Am I the only one happy that FOX News is desperate enough to put someone such Ms. Marsden on the air? Elements of the far right have become so sad and pathetic in their discourse that they are reduced to dim witted, juvenile insults.
Rush Limbaugh attacks a man with Parkinson’s disease, and a mother of three with cancer. Ann Coulter uses such intellectual terms as “raghead” and calls a respected father “faggot.” Now they give us someone whose racism and xenophobia can only be expressed by telling Pakistani’s they should “focus…a little more on hygiene.”
Forget calling them frat boys, these people are clearly in Junior High. Ms. Marsden should be given a spot in prime time. Let America be confronted by the rabid hated they spew.
George Will wants to compare Ann Coulter to Paul Krugman. I think that’s great. I’ll gladly compare a Princeton professor to a woman who once told a Vietnam vet "No wonder you guys lost."
Thank you, FOX News for showing America how disgusting the right wing has become.
