And a new phrase is added to the lexicon for "whackjob"...
"Crazy as a fox news pundit"...what's next for that bastion of journalistic integrity, pedophiles doing the weather? oh, what sweet justice if she ended up stalking Falafel Boy...

Keep Flushing
Maybe if we keep flushing, she will continue her southward journey and settle in Mexico.

Where are the talented people
I always wonder (and I find myself wondering about this quite a bit) where are the truly talented people who are intelligent, insightful, creative and earnest? It seems like the only people to find success these days are the sociopaths who have absolutely nothing of worth to offer. How do they succeed and excel beyond people who truly have something to offer.
I finished the article and was left thinking "who is this woman and why is she on tv spouting her opinions as though they matter?"
Britney Spears: not talented, not interesting in the least
Brad Pitt/Angela Jolie/Jennifer Aniston (together, alone or any combination): not talented, not interesting in the least
Rush Limbaugh: not talented, not interesting in the least
George Bush: not talented, not interesting in the least
Simon Cowell: not talented, not interesting in the least
Anna Nichole Smith: not talented, not interesting in the least
Notice a pattern here? Oddballs and freaks have always captured the public's imagination, but it seems like we've become such a vapid society that all we exhault and reward is freakish, attention-whoring egotists.

Misogyny of the Right
Marsden represents another of the damaged, attractive, attention-seeking, fire-throwing, slightly unhinged young women that the misogynist Right loves to fantasize about, laugh at, lionize and patronize, all at the same time.

Ranylt
I'm posting this a few letters after your comment, but as your post was starred I think it is important this correction be made:
"More interesting still, I've never in my life heard SFU referred to as "progressive." I've always associated it with conservatism--because so many prominent Canadian conservatives went there/were drawn there, and because of the Simon Fraser Institute, a self-described "right-wing think-tank" (or maybe that's just how the left-of-centre-but-still-more-centre-than-not CBC describes them...?)."
The right-wing think tank to which you are referring is NOT called the Simon Fraser Institute, but simply The Fraser Institute, and it is named after the Fraser River. Same Fraser (the explorer), yes, but the university and the Fraser Institute have nothing to do with one another. Furthermore, SFU is considered no more conservative than any other big Canadian university. It has so many high profile conservative graduates probably because the rich kids tend to head for the most prestigious schools. But it also graduated CBC radio ur-host and warm/fuzzy liberal extraordinare Peter Gzowski amongst others.

Marsden is a Menace
This article is great and, having been on Red Eye, I know many of her colleagues would NOT call her a team player. Just because she has an opinion, it does not make it valid.

The Nuttier The Better
It is interesting how our media and pop culture has become so enamored with the most psychologically disturbed people to comment on the workings of our society and the world at large. It can only be understood as reflective of a great country that continues to lose it's ethical and moral edge, and can only respond to it's own deterioration by promoting those who will offer a quick fix redemption by depreciating and denigrating everything and everybody else, rather than acknowledging the deeper truths, not only about the tough times we are faced with in our world, but the inner demons of their own minds. Maybe there's a relationship between the two ?

More on Marsden's roots
Ranylt and others should know that the Fraser Institute, a conservative think tank, has nothing to do with Simon Fraser University (the institute's offices are downtown; SFU is located in the suburb of Burnaby. FWIW, Simon Fraser was a famous explorer, so his name is linked with many things in B.C.).
While SFU has some conservative profs, it's fair to call it a progressive school.
It might also be worth noting that B.C. is the home of some of the most bare-knuckled, polarized politics in Canada.
The Toronto Sun, a fading newspaper, and the conservative National Post are about the only places in this country where Marsden can get published. I work in the Canadian news media, and no one I know takes Marsden seriously as a political commentator.
Those who have heard of her think she's nuts.

The right-wing think tank to which you are referring is NOT called the Simon Fraser Institute, but simply The Fraser Institute
Thanks, Relyc--that clears it up! Not sure how it got jumbled in my head.
As for SFU itself, I have yet to meet an alum who _isn't_ a conservative stereotype, personally. The more you people post, the more balanced things become.

Wow, she has issues
Like another poster said, stalkers don't just get better on their own. I predict that Ms. Marsden self-distructs spectacularly at some point, probably involving someone else working at Fox, given her previous pattern of behavior.
However, the funniest thing about the article and letters that follow wasn't any of the content, but the ad ironically placed in the middle of one of the letter pages, presumably by some ad-server using keywords to find related ads.
It advertises something called www.catchhimandkeephim.com with the tagline: "Why Men Withdraw...Learn The Secret to Creating ATTRACTION So Intense He Never Leaves You."
Since Ms. Marsden sent one of her harrassees a Playboy subscription in the past, maybe someone might return the favor to her...?

Who?
I never heard of this woman before today, and I won't remember her tomorrow. I do wonder if her (quasi) criminal record will be an issue when it comes time to apply for the green card. And to think I had assumed the US already had so many unstable right wingers there was no need to import more from north of the border.

Prediction
My prediction: soon, Camille Paglia will write admiringly of Marsden on this site...stay tuned.

Rachel Marsden sounds just like Amanda Marcotte!
In the meantime, I’ve been sort of casually listening to CNN blaring throughout the waiting area and good fucking god is that channel pure evil. For awhile, I had to listen to how the poor dear lacrosse players at Duke are being persecuted just because they held someone down and fucked her against her will—not rape, of course, because the charges have been thrown out.
Can’t a few white boys sexually assault a black woman anymore without people getting all wound up about it?
So unfair.
Yes, how dare a rape victim act confused and bewildered like she was raped or something.
Natalia, do you know the details of the case? If so, why do you think a women enthusiastically jumped into a sexual situation with men making slavery jokes at her? Furthermore, what is your theory on why she supposedly looooooved having sex with guys holding her facedown on the bathroom floor? There’s no “if” they behaved in a disrespectful manner. We have conclusive evidence that happened.
This is about race and class and gender in every way, and there’s basically no way this woman was going to see justice. In her part of the country, both women and black people are seen as subhuman objects to be used and abused by white men.
Yeah, I know, Alon. Which is why I’m frustrated that people are pretending ‘can’t identify which one raped her” somehow equals ‘wasn’t raped’. I had some initial confusion about exactly who was assaulting me when I was assaulted, but that doesn’t mean that his hands weren’t actually where they were.
Plus, the media is acting like these men are exonerated!
After James Taranto brought attention to the words above, Marcotte deleted them (so much for “transparency” in the Edwards campaign). Her new statement?
Since people are determined to make hay over this quick shot of a post, I’m deleting it and here’s my official stance. The prosecution in the Duke case fumbled the ball. The prosecutor was too eager to get a speedy case and make a name for himself. That is my final word.
