Nuts on the loose!
I find it 'interesting' (at least) and very surprising that nuts such as Rachel Marsden can make it so big in the USA.
On second thoughts, I shouldn't find it surprising after all: you have made GW Bush your President, no less. Now THAT is surprising!

great article rebecca!
But I think we already know how the right is going to spin this. It'll be just like the spin they put on gay hooker Matt Sanchez (e.g. he's a victim, the left won't allow conservatives to rehabilitate their lives, this is simply political, it's hypocrisy). Blah-f'king-blah. And if this story manages to get any play in the mainstream media, you can bet Fox PR will mount a "SHE'S the victim here" assault. Pervy Uncle Billy will have her on his program and she'll cry on cue and he'll hug her and all of conservative America will sigh with relief.
That she's mentally ill is of little concern to anyone on the right(in fact, her obvious DSM-IV borderline personality is a big plus for Fox, because her insatiable need to be admired/desired will keep her on a short corporate leash -- like Coulter and Malkin, the only thing the brass will have to do is throw a little money her way and tell her how hot she is).
And to the person who said the U.S. wants to be Canada, that was true about five years ago. Unfortunately, what's happening in your country now is where we were about ten years ago. The Christian right-wing in your country have learned well from their brethren south of the border -- all your hard-won progressive gains will be slowly chipped away.

Murdoch Must Have Created Marsden In A Laboratory
FOX has turned into a sad freak show. It's the intellectual dishonesty that bothers me most. Our culture seems to celebrate buffoonery without being able to discern what it is. FOX execs probably were aware of Marsden's bogus rape claims and stalker past, and since she is so accomplished at distorting things, that's why they hired her.
-
What was Salon thinking?
What has Marsden ever done to Ms Traister? This is nothing more than a hit piece by someone with a personal axe to grind and the fact that the editors of this online rag let it go speaks volumes. Traister gets in the predictable cheap shots at Fox News and basically does a hatchetjob that displays zero journalistic integrity. Is it any surprise that Marsden refused to talk to Traister when it is obvious that she had an agenda? Salon has sunk to doing what they accuse the likes of Fox News of doing.

Hey Rachel
bombast is a good pseudonym for you. what are you going to do now, stalk rebecca? wouldn't blame you, the right loves girl on girl action.
-
bombast - Hatchet Job
Just the right wings term for accurate reporting.
-
you got to admit she sounds like a perfect match for O'Reilley
don't know why they ever split those two up. I'd kind of like to watch them together just to see what would happen.
-
Hatchet Job
I wonder if Traister could survive the same scrutiny that she gave to Marsden? Any skeletons in her closet from a decade ago? You don't have to like Fox News or Marsden but the story is one sided. Questioning Fox's decision to hire her makes this an opinion piece and not reportage. What great journalistic qualifications does the lovely Rebecca have?
-
regular column in a big Canadian paper?
I know you guys might not be up on canadian newspapers but in toronto there are four papers and the sun (for which ms. marsden is allowed to spew her bile) is number four. like your fox news it has never allowed the facts (or rational discourse) to get in the way of a story; nor is it taken seriously by anyone with an iq greater than number of credible jouralism jobs on ms. marsden's resume. sorry to have sent her your way, but we are quite done with her.
-
WHAT WAS FOX THINKING?
Stalkers are people who are in denial of reality. FOX News not only knew she was a stalker, it may be what drew them to hire her. She'll fit right in!
-
National Post
Rachel Marsden started her newspaper career with a column in the National Post which is owned by one of the largest media companies in Canada. Think Tribune. They made major staff cutbacks, Marsden was let go and a couple of weeks later hired by the Toronto Sun. I don't understand why Traister didn't mention this.
-
Mad Marsden
I'm actually quite surprised that so many posters got so quickly to the obvious. This woman is as mad as a March Hare.
Had a man exhibited the kind of behavior Mardsen has, he would undoubtably have earned an extended stay where three hots and a flop are provided, long ago. It's understood in much of our society how dangerous this sort of a personality may be, but aside from the occasional "Rock the Cradle" sort of counterpoint, only males who are this kind and degree of crazy get us seriously worried.
Salon readers seem quite unimpressed with this kook's looks. I don't think that disinterest is shared by the average Fox viewer, so I suspect she'll have a long career there.

How to destroy democratic culture
As a previous letter writer noted, Fox knows exactly what it is doing. When your goal is the destruction of democratic culture--rational conversation, nuance, compromise and cooperation--then ex-criminals fluent in hate speech are your vanguard.
Chris Hedges explains this in his book "War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning." Especially the chapters Slobodan Milošević's rise to power in the former Yugoslavia.
-
plenty of ranting nutjob pundits on both sides
What hypocrisy here at Salon where only the right-wing pundit nut jobs get excoriated. Anyone listen to Rosie O'Donnell or Bill Maher lately? Christ, talk about over-the-top ranters. Of course, they're not outrageous or hate-filled--why, no--not at all.
-
So, as I see it...
the anchors on the show she contributes to are shocked by her statements, thus demonstrating Fox does not approve what she says, but you still bill her as "Fox's Ann Coulter"?
How desperate are you?
-
It's called Equal Treatment/Opportunity
See Bill O'Reilly

Gosh
Moronic, 1950's-style locker-room "humor" from a right-wing news organ.
What a surprise. Whee.
Move on. We've got a country to take back, ok?

She posted her resume on her web site . . .
. . . says she knows HTML, but her web design skills are atrocious. The site is as ugly as it is vapid . . .
