"Simon Cowell: not talented, not interesting in the least"

You're entitled to your opinion, but after observing Cowell on American Idol for some years now, I can say, as a musician of modest talent myself, that Cowell's judgements of the contestants are not only consistently unerring, they include concise nuanced insight that tells me Cowell is a very interesting guy. He's often quite witty--if occasionally cruel--too.
As for the larger question: entertainment has *always* involved freaks and geeks. The only time serious, earnest people make it into show business is when we make fun of them... maybe the most notable example I can think of on this line was the 17th century British habit of putting famous literary or political figures on display in cages, in their dotage, drooling and gabbling in the final stages of senile dementia. I am not making that up, btw.
So, by that standard, our current entertainment figures are pillars of civility.
As for Marsden. She is most definitely hot. That, plus her ability to speak understandable English and trash all things "librul" make her a star for the right. And, I agree with other posters who propose that she will self-destruct sooner or later. She probably is a disordered personality. And time alone does not fix that problem.
