    Pressing Issues...

I share your trepidation at the state of the world, Chas. Not to be dismissive of the threat of terrorism, but the greatest issue facing humanity in the 21st century is clearly the environment. When I add up the totality of the issues out there - fish stock depletion, destructive agricultural practices, ocean warming and deterioration, freshwater shortages all over, including here in the American southwest, overpopulation and obviously, an absurdly wasteful use of energy and resources, it can only lead to a conclusion that things do not bode well for the long-term survival of our species. I hope we are not the first species to have the technological know-how to prevent its own extinction but that was unable to do so because of arrogance, indifference and complacency. We truly need an enlightened leader in the WHite House in 2008, now more than ever.
