The private war of women soldiers

Many female soldiers say they are sexually assaulted by their male comrades and can't trust the military to protect them. "The knife wasn't for the Iraqis," says one woman. "It was for the guys on my own side."

    About the correction

Just a quick note from me as managing editor about the concerns of Demond Mullins that he was misquoted in Helen Benedict's article. Yesterday he posted a letter in this thread to that effect (saying an earlier correction we had run wasn't adequate). He also sent the same letter directly to Salon via email. Salon takes complaints of this nature very seriously and we did indeed act and resolve the issue. As soon as we received Mullins's email, I immediately called him. I also consulted at length with the author late last night when I could finally reach her. After careful consideration, we posted a correction this morning.--Jeanne Carstensen, managing editor
