By your article name, I would guess you are about 12 or 13? Because obviously you are either ignorant or living in some kind of bubble. Reparations to the Iraqis ?, Are you kidding me? We are trying to form some kind of democracy in this region that is so backwards, so against human rights, so willing to kill anyone who disagrees with their twisted way of religion, and bent on destroying the West. The only thing we owe them is the idea of a free government. Your second point that our way of freedom is through the way of bayonet. Get off your bleeding heart and realize that sometimes confrontation is the only way to achieve these goals. People like you make me sick, you are willing to suck up to every right that you think you are beholden to in this country, yet are not willing to make a single sacrifice. Shame on you, Steph
This is no time to get all squimish. We can stop the war machine now. Pelosi can begin by providing reparations to the iraqis whose live have been destroyed by Bush and Company. When will this counrty realize freedom cannot be forced at the point of the bayonet. The hanging of Sadaam as the lastest in the long string of miscues by this administration. The Iraqis were better off without a constitution.
For jumping in, bypassing the architects of the current dismal state of affairs in this country and in the world, and getting some extremely important, "long past due" work done. For more than a decade now, Democrats have been subjected to ridicule and contempt by the Republican Party, They have been forced to not simply "sit on the sidelines" but to wander lost in the wilderness searching for the playing field. They have been blocked, silenced, shunned, ignored, mocked, derided and even told to "go fuck yourself" by members of the Republican Party; not once, not twice, but so many times I have lost count.
Republican snivelers who cry "foul" at the actions of Dems will receive NO sympathy from me, for they are in huge part responsible for the myriad messes we find ourselves in - both domestically and globally - at this point in our country's history. We have witnessed repeatedly over the past twelve years these same whining, simpering pantywaists talk out of both sides of their mouths, claiming in the same breath to support "bipartisan" efforts while eliminating the ability for a Dem to be heard.
One reaps what one sows and manys the time we tried to temper their actions by stating that one day, the shoes would be on the other feet.
It's not my problem they didn't listen.
If you can't stand the heat, go fuck yourself.
The GOP's planned permanent take-over of the House and Senate didn't quite work out the way Rove and Delay planned. For the past 12 years the GOP leadership ignored Dems so now it's time for Democratic leadership to return the favor, for the first 100 hours anyway. The GOP had no trouble, no qualms whatsoever about shutting the Dems completely out of the lawmaking process while they held the majority but now that the shoe is on the other foot they want to cry "foul." The crybabies should just get over it. Let the GOPers suck it up like the Dems have done for a dozen years.
Smallman McHenry apparently doesn't realize that after the flameouts of Mark Foley and Ted Haggard, he should avoid the "cramming it down our throats" analogy. It only reminds the public of all those closeted GOPers, which can't be good for mobilizing their radical religious right base.
Compare Drier's bitching about having less than 24 hours to look over the reform bill, which is made up of proposals that have been discussed for months now to how the original Patriot Act vote was taken. The Patriot Act (HR 3162) was introduced in the House of Representatives on October 23, 2001. It was approved by the House on October 24, 2001, and approved in the Senate on October 25, 2001. Bush signed the bill into law on October 26, 2001. Since the bill was written by the Bush Administration's Viet Dinh and Michael Chertoff, almost no Senators or Representatives had even seen a copy of it before voting. At least Drier got to see a copy of the reform bill before he was asked to vote on it.
Let them twist in the wind for a while as the rest of us have done for the past twelve years and especially for the last six under georgie boy.
The "Three Pillers" that give the Rethuglikkkan Party it's power can also twist in the wind or better yet should be removed from any and all power. These "Three Pillers" are the military industrial complex, the Neocons and the worst group of all the THEOCONS, the so called Pro-Life group who will stop at nothing to force their own personal beliefs down the throats of everyone else, not just their congregants, no matter the cost to America or the world in dead and maimed american troops and Iraqi citizens.
The Holocaust of WWII is still reverberating around the world today and resulting directly in the Holocaust that is Iraq.
And the person most responsible for this is bin Laden, still running free.
I absolutely will not blame or in any way hold the Pelosi and the Dems responsible if they cannot fix this mess in the Middle East. I see no cures and no way to fix this Bush/GOP caused, made and manufactured situation.
Shoveling in more live troops just to get returned more dead and maimed troops and Iraqis is an abomination which is doomed to fail, just as it already has during the previous troop increase into Baghdad.
To 'fix' the Bush family and GOP mess their are only two possibilities. First possibility, which may well not work, and that is to send in 300,000 or more troops to completely suppress all the insurgents. At the same time get the incompetent Bush/Cheney/GOP cronies out of Iraq and let the military(not Bush/Cheney or the GOP) run the war. Also the Bush/Cheney/GOP incompetent and thieving corporate cronies and war profiteers must be removed from Iraq. Iraqi construction firms and Iraqi academics must be hired to employ Iraqi citizens to rebuild the infrastructure. WhenIraqi citizens are employed to rebuild their own country a national unity 'may' arise.
The other 'fix' is to reploy our troops, beyond the horizon, and let the military come up with a plan to help Iraq as much as possible while at the same time staying out of the way as much as possible.
I don't give a damn about Bush's legacy, the Bush family or the entire GOP for the death and damage they have caused.
