Wow!
This is what Americans are all about -- this is what America is all about. In fact, this is what the military is about: protecting our freedoms. As the bumper sticker says: "Everyone's entitled to their own stupid opinion." I'm very impressed indeed with Mr. Weinstein, and hope he keeps up the good work.
-
Only one possible response:
God bless and keep you, sir, and may the Lord make haste to help you in your mission.
-
Awesome!
Mikey Weinstein just rocks, so refreshing to see someone *not* being all mealy mouthed and conciliatory about a big red ticket issue.
"We are going to leave sucking chest wounds on these people that are trying to destroy our Constitution
Ought to be the rallying cry of every American who is distraught about where their country is headed.
-
Thank you
Thank you, Mr. Weinstein. We need more people like you in this country.

Please Pay Attention!
This guy is not exaggerating. Please pay attention to the fact that most of his calls for help are from regular Christians.
The "Christian" fundamentalists have been on a rampage for years, and people such as Salon posters still do not understand them as a serious threat.
Have you noticed that fundamentalist intimidation and rape both have peaked at the Air Force Academy recently? Don't get me started. I could write all night.
Good source: talk2action.org This is a website about the fundamentalist threat.

Who would Jesus bomb?
Seriously.
You cannot be a Christian and a member of the Armed Forces. It is an oxymoron. I have nothing against people wanting to be Christians or wanting to serve our country, but there is no overlap. None. Zilch. You may call yourself a Christian, but you're not. Not even close.
Oh, I'm not referring to the Christianity espoused by Falwell, Roberson, Dobson, or George Bush. I'm talking about the Christianity I've read in the New Testament. Which, incidentally, is a nice myth, as myths go. Not my cup of tea, but its essence is good.
OK, Christians, I'll wait for your rebuttal. Just stick to the facts, please. Because I've read your New Testament, and I have yet to find any passage where Jesus instructs us to willingly, without cause or provocation, invade a soverign nation and literally slaughter tens of thousands of their citizens for no reason whatsoever except to line the pockets of the military-industrial complex and prop up the Bush/Cheney family fortunes.

Fantastic interview
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. If Wienstein needs some money to pursue this, please publish the address. He gets my check -- no question.

Christianist fascism
Every last participant in that video needs to be busted to E-3 and then expelled from the armed services.

Hear, fricking Hear
Never again.

religion at arms
The folks at JihadWatch were howling today about a similar criticism of evangelical commanders in the military. The average poster there (a conservative Republican Christian) wonders why everyone writes them off as Islamophobes and yet can't see how their own endless sense of being victims of a liberal media, etc. and being moreover deserved of a special place in society exactly mirrors that of most Muslim groups.
Then again Salon publishes this article, which I fully agree with. How many of you jumping in to express outrage against the influence of Christianity would support the military if it cracked-down on conservative Muslims in the ranks? How long before people screamed racism and Islamophobia and Juan Cole had an article here explaining how the Jews, I mean Israel of course, was really to blame? Hasan Akbar comes to mind by the way as a US Muslim soldier who committed a violent act of treason recently. Now come the excuses how he was just showing Muslim solidarity for an illegal war, etc. etc.
How can a religious person really be loyal to a nation state in the end? What Muslim or Christian would put god behind the US? People chide agnostics, atheists, etc. as bad citizens but I actually realize that all my privilages stem from being an American and not some intricate plan of a megalomaniac god.

Right on!
This sort of evangelism is just plain scary. Unfortunately, it is even in the schools. I teach middle school. A little over a year ago, one kid in one of my classes, totally out of context to the lesson that day, found it necessary to spout off that "Catholics are not Christians!".
I put a stop to that crap immediately, especially before he could drift into the "Jews are Christ killers" rant. And, no, I am not Catholic, just a rather independent Methodist.
Mr. Weinstein needs all the help he can get, or we will soon be in the grip of our own "Christian" Taliban.
-
Whoa
That is one seriously pissed-off dude. Most refreshing to read. All the tiptoeing around these fundie jackasses - oo! mustn't insult their god! he might start to cry! - has been incredibly embarrassing. This is America, which means no religion is above any other, and all of them are both open to criticism and accountable for the results of what they spread.
Mr. Weinstein, do rock on, please.
-
Yes!
three cheers for mikey weinstein. but what you wanna bet the right wing nuts will attack him because he is jewish? hmm?
i do want to hear from the moderate christians in the armed forces on this. let them add their voices to mikey weinstein's, and make this an ecumenical effort.

Prejudice in rhe Military
HURRAY FOR MAJOR WEINSTEIN!! I had a West Point in 1940,was failed entrance by TWO pts. on English exam. I was no.1 in the English class Of Bklyn.Academy They refused to allow me review my paper.Directof of Prep school. insisted it was blatant prejudice! Not to be lengthy, here it is 66 years later, is absolutsly unconscionable, not only that,it demeans the sacrifices made by so many in previous wars.As an AIR FORCE VETERAN W,W.2,I,myself,having flown 40 missions as navigator in the Pacific, cant help feeling angry, upset that this ugly and pernacious, poisonous activity is still going on.When will it ever stop? Keep up the good fight!!
