Olbermann is a fine example for our Democratic leadership

For years, Republiations have been wrapping themseleves in the flag and beating Democrats senseless with the flag pole. Olbermann has demonstrated by example that Democrats can also use the language of liberty and American principle to attack Republican policy forcefully and honestly. Americans respond to the drama and intensity of that kind of language not only as entertainment, but even more because it speaks to our moral core and sense of decency.

The fact is that Democratic policy is more principled, and indeed conservative, than that of the Republications. In just his two most famous commentaries, Olbermann pointed to this fact in the area of Bush's style of governance by analogizing the Bush administration to WWII-era facist regimes (with a dissoluation of the rule of law, attacks on the intelligensia-- especially science-- and a policy of fearmongering and falsehood). We can go further by pointing out that Democrats are more fiscally conservative than Republicans by standing for balanced budgets and investiment in the future, rather than balooning deficits and a burdening of future generations. We can go further by pointing out that Democrats are more conservative on national security than are Republications by promoting energy conservation and the dissolution of the oil economy-- which has the double security benefit of disentangling America from our incindiary presences in the middle easy, and of avoiding mounting environmental disasters.

We have the facts. We have the moral high ground. Now, we need to follow Olbermann by giving ourselves a voice.
