Lieberman wins!

The three-term incumbent senator was beaten by a political unknown, but on election night his team was already spinning it as a victory.

The letters thread is now closed.

Why are we complaining now that he has decided to quit the party?

There is nothing wrong with Joe running as an independent unless you've got a problem with Democracy. Joe clearly isn't a Democrat, and he is clearly not a Republican, though he obviously shares virtues of both parties.

Only the most narrow interpretation of representative government reveals him as some sort of disloyal spoiler aimed at his own self-aggrandizement. The same was said of Ralph Nader, the century's most renowned consumer advocate going down in history as an ego-driven spoiler.

I don't agree with much of what Joe Lieberman represents. It was Gore's choice of Lieberman that cost him my vote in 2000. But to disparage his choice to run because *gasp* he might cost a party which has clearly abandoned him an election. I guess we should all tow the line out of fear of an even worse government. It's worked so well, towing the line. It worked in 1980 when we rallied behind Carter and didn't vote for Anderson. It worked when we supported Mondale and Dukakis. It worked when we stood behind Clinton and lost congress. It worked oh, so well when we held our noses and voted for a pro-war John Kerry in the hopes of beating Bush again. The whole time we blame the other guy. It's not that we run people based on winnability, rather than merit, it's election fraud in Ohio. It's not that Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry, and Gore did not represent most of our party, it's that they were slandered by attack ads or the press. When GHW Bush won it was the Willie Horton Ads. When he lost it was a triumph for Democracy. Why don't we, as liberals, as progressives, as intelligent people, start acknowledging that the entire scheme of voting for a majority, or voting for a republican killer is a failed strategy.

Joe Lieberman is running according to the laws of his state and our constitution. He is probably running because he has the genuine support of around half of his voting constituency, which gives him no reason to stop acting on his beliefs. If he wins or loses it will be by the force of Democracy in action, even if his candidacy splits the vote and someone wins in a plurality-like Clinton did.

Complaining about Lieberman's choice to run is complaining about actual democracy. Not oligarchic two-party democracy, but actual democracy where people get to vote for who they believe in, for a country that they want to live in. Even if it's for someone you and I detest. Lieberman had no business belonging to the Democratic Party. Why are we complaining now that he has decided to drop out?

Senator Joseph Lieberman WINS one for INDEPENDENCE !

To change this Nation to form of governance directly in accordance with the reality of Independence Day, I ran for Mayor. City Council Members, with much more expertise in the tenants of local politics and with the PhD attached to their title backed my candidacy.

To change this International Community and have it abide by the United States Constitution, I felt that the DEMOCRACY which this Nation stood for, could be exported, by those values represented here: that Democracy begins with each and every individual. If that could be proven here, the point of the bayonet would never be needed elsewhere in making that claim.

The Council with their Wisdom, expertise and Degrees could NOT bring that reality here.

When "The Eagle" Reporter called to ask how I felt about Not getting winning Votes, my reply was that indeed I had WON.

If those with the same talents on the Council could NOT facilitate change, my winning gave me the Independence to NOT have to put up with toting the screed of "Lobbyists" gleaning their share above the will of the local Voters.

My hope is that Senator Lieberman will follow through on those Values he has worked for to benefit the Citizens of this Nation. Lobbyists be damned.

Independence above the POWER grid of that Neocon, Republican STUFFED DickDubyaShip.

NEWS FLASH---CODE RED---Secretary Jerkoff has protected this Nation once again! You can put away your Duct Tape and Plastic. The SAVIORS have arrived and you an thank that Tony Blaring guy too.

How FAST they ALL WORK and as the King says: "It's Hard Work, tis is Hard Work".

Go TEAM GO!

Joe Lieberman insults democracy

Joe Lieberman is an insult to democratic process. He claims that he and President Bush are promoting democracy in the Arab world, yet he is ignoring honest results and finding technicalities to keep himself in power. What message does this send to the Middle East?

Add in obvious corruption and shenanigan in Florida, voter suppression and questionable results from electronic voting machines in Ohio and it become clear why the U.S. has become so disliked and distrusted around the globe.

Joe Lieberman cannot claim to be supporting democracy in the Middle East while he is trying so hard to thwart it here.

Joe Blow

As a former Connecticut resident who (sorry to say) voted several times for Joe Lieberman, I now see that he has as much respect for 'his' party's constitution as he does for the US Constitution. Poor old Joe - I guess those new-fangled Republican voting machines from Ohio arrived too late!

As for the party itself, after Joe's outrageous post-primary behavior, if he is not immediately ejected, it's name should be changed from the Democratic to the Loser Party. Because if it continues to pursue the samen old gutless course it's taken for the past 6 years, that's what it will be until the unitary executive shuts it down for national security reasons.
