Lieberman wins!

The three-term incumbent senator was beaten by a political unknown, but on election night his team was already spinning it as a victory.

The letters thread is now closed.

party purity a bad idea

It would be funny if it were not so sad how delusional the left is in the Democratic party. The far left villify "centrist" Democrats as "Republican-light." Gosh, you'd expect that we in the Democratic party were in control of everything in Washington as opposed to nothing and it made sense to purify the Democratic party of people not far enough to the left.

My favorite ridiculous argument that comes from the far left side of the party is that our previous presidential candidates lost because they were too centrist and not liberal enough. Talk about Karl Rove like spin...At least he doesn't believe all of his spin.

You leftists need to face this truth...You hold alot of sway as party activists but most of the country disagrees with your tone and many of your ideas.

The only Democrats that won the presidency in the last 40 years (and there were only two) ran as party centrists. The reason that Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale and McGovern lost was because they were, or had to run, too far to the left in the Democratic primary to get nominated and could not recover in the general.

And don't tell me about how Republicans are more successful because they run to their base. The truth is there are more people in this country that identify themselves as conservative than liberal. Republicans win when Democrats abandon the middle or each party runs to its base.

Lieberman is an honorable man who has served his country with distinction. He looks at problems honestly and devotes himself to solving them. I applaud his wanting to reach across the divisions between parties and believe the country and the Democratic party would be better if there were more people like him in Washington.

Lieberman has become a joke

Lieberman spins just like Karl Rove spins, and people fall for it.

Lieberman should just resign from the Democratic party or be thrown out.

Kiss of Death?

It is easy to understand why ex-senator Lieberman is fighting vigorously to return to the House of Lords - oh! excuse me - I mean, the Senate, with its perks and privileges and opportunities for plush retirement nesteggs from grateful lobbyists.

Lieberman was trying hard to 'support the president' 'support the war' and accused the disaffected of consorting with traitors or being disloyal Americans. This was hard to swallow by most Dems.

However, he should know the probable Death Knell to his career was delivered by none other than you know who - the president he supported. In full view of cameras, TV, ample witnesses, we see Bush grab Lieberman's neck, forcefully pull his head over, and plant a cheek kiss on Lieberman's stunned and stony face. In all honesty, Lieberman did not look too thrilled by this maneuver and did not respond with a kiss of his own.

But the deed was done: in the film, 'The Godfather', Fredo gets the kiss (not on the cheek) by his big brother the Godfather to indicate he was seeing his last sunset.

This seemed to be delivered with a similar intent. Nothing could have infuriated most Democrats more!

Using a religious metaphor, how can one keep from overlaying this scene with the fabled 'Judas Kiss' on Christ before Jesus is delivered to the henchmen to be crucified. Unconsciously, could the 'born again' Bush have set up Lieberman for the big fall? Could this be a metaphor of religious opposition????

Or could W just have been seized with an overwhelming affectionate response when he saw the Golden Teddy Bear frozen face of Lieberman hanging before him in the crowd, and some undisciplined urge caused him to show untoward emotion? We may never know.

We do know though, that Bush kissed Lieberman and now Lieberman can kiss his aristocratic, prestigious Senate seat goodbye.

Joe Blow

As a former Connecticut resident who (sorry to say) voted several times for Joe Lieberman, I now see that he has as much respect for 'his' party's constitution as he does for the US Constitution. Poor old Joe - I guess those new-fangled Republican voting machines from Ohio arrived too late!

As for the party itself, after Joe's outrageous post-primary behavior, if he is not immediately ejected, it's name should be changed from the Democratic to the Loser Party. Because if it continues to pursue the samen old gutless course it's taken for the past 6 years, that's what it will be until the unitary executive shuts it down for national security reasons.

Joe Lieberman insults democracy

Joe Lieberman is an insult to democratic process. He claims that he and President Bush are promoting democracy in the Arab world, yet he is ignoring honest results and finding technicalities to keep himself in power. What message does this send to the Middle East?

Add in obvious corruption and shenanigan in Florida, voter suppression and questionable results from electronic voting machines in Ohio and it become clear why the U.S. has become so disliked and distrusted around the globe.

Joe Lieberman cannot claim to be supporting democracy in the Middle East while he is trying so hard to thwart it here.

Senator Joseph Lieberman WINS one for INDEPENDENCE !

To change this Nation to form of governance directly in accordance with the reality of Independence Day, I ran for Mayor. City Council Members, with much more expertise in the tenants of local politics and with the PhD attached to their title backed my candidacy.

To change this International Community and have it abide by the United States Constitution, I felt that the DEMOCRACY which this Nation stood for, could be exported, by those values represented here: that Democracy begins with each and every individual. If that could be proven here, the point of the bayonet would never be needed elsewhere in making that claim.

The Council with their Wisdom, expertise and Degrees could NOT bring that reality here.

When "The Eagle" Reporter called to ask how I felt about Not getting winning Votes, my reply was that indeed I had WON.

If those with the same talents on the Council could NOT facilitate change, my winning gave me the Independence to NOT have to put up with toting the screed of "Lobbyists" gleaning their share above the will of the local Voters.

My hope is that Senator Lieberman will follow through on those Values he has worked for to benefit the Citizens of this Nation. Lobbyists be damned.

Independence above the POWER grid of that Neocon, Republican STUFFED DickDubyaShip.

NEWS FLASH---CODE RED---Secretary Jerkoff has protected this Nation once again! You can put away your Duct Tape and Plastic. The SAVIORS have arrived and you an thank that Tony Blaring guy too.

How FAST they ALL WORK and as the King says: "It's Hard Work, tis is Hard Work".

Go TEAM GO!
