So Mr. Cronin, who voted twice for Bush, supported the swiftboating of his fellow Vietnam veteran (and fellow hero), John Kerry.
Where's Cronin been all this time? Too little...way, way too late.
It's especially poignant since I believe that the penalties include the death penalty. According to a recent Washington Post article:
"That law ... threatens the death penalty if U.S.-held detainees die in custody from abusive treatment"
I would expect action much sooner than '08 if the Democrats can muster any cajones by November ....

Mr. Cronin deserves praise for his actions and it is neither too little nor too late. He is obviously a man who believes in what he does and says.
When I first started reading the article I was all supportive for this guy, even though he voted for Bush twice. But he lost me when I read that he joined up with the lying Swift Boat crowd. I'm sorry, but that's just not forgiveable, no matter what has happened since. What the Swift Boat crew did was illegal, and it was built upon lies, and it showed no regard for the political process this guy claims to love. Of the many ways that this fraudulent election went down, this was one of the major sins comitted by the rethugs. Their own candidate couldn't win on his own merit, so they had to thoroughly trash a decent man, and a real war hero.
Too little, too late, indeed. Forget it pal, you may as well stick with your buddies, instead of trying to somehow weasle out of what's coming to them. Their day will come, and it's going to be ugly.
I agree that anyone who supported the Swift Boat Veterans for Slander is guilty of, at the least, very poor judgement. (At the most, they're guilty of treason -- but that's an argument for another time.) But the simple fact is that, right now, real Americans need all the allies they can get. If Cronin wants to place himself on America's side, even temporarily, then I say we welcome him. If and when we ever get our country back, then there will be time for recriminations. Right now, in case you didn't notice, there's a war on.
Mike Cronin served as Director of Vietnam EXPOWS, an organization that was created for the sole purpose of, according to Cronin, "to do whatever we can to oppose the election of John Kerry as president."
In this article, Cronin claims that when he was tortured in Vietnam he "told lies" to his captors. "When you put people in that position, the information you get is not reliable."
Were the Swift Boaters torturing him when he claimed, "He [Kerry] went to Paris and privately met with Communist negotiators"? He knew full well it was a lie when he said it. Kerry spoke publicly and in Senate testimony in 1971 about meeting with delegations from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Provisional Revolutionary Government in Paris. It was a known fact-finding mission geared toward peace talks.
As a veteran myself, I don't want Cronin as a public advocate on this important issue. Not because he opposed a brave veteran who would've prevented this travesty and supported a coward who was knowingly harming our military. It is because he has a personal agenda and no credibility.
. . . is Cronin's credibility flying out the window at warp speed once his support of the Swift Boat liars is revealed.
What sickens me besides Cronin's being on the swift boat is the fact that Gonzales was confirmed as A.G., Joe Lieberman being one of those voting Aye.
So the Dems didn't have enough votes but this A.G. is by far the worst. Is the Bush administration's play book straight out of Argentina, Chile or Gilliam's "Brazil"?
I don't often pray but one thing I pray for is that these criminals, these lying theves get hoisted on their respective swords. They have broken so many laws and have so much contempt for "democracy", "freedom" and the rule of law that it just boggles my mind.
I've said it before, it almost makes me wish that the evangelicals are right about the apocalypse, I'm not any better than most but nothing would please me more than to see this group have their dear lord condemn them to the pits of hell.
They show absolutely no genuine and real concern for human rights on any imaginable level or Christian love and charity for that matter.
and a very courageous and intelligent man. I hope at this point he is also a politically remorseful man.
No wonder they've been claiming all along that Geneva didn't apply. They've known about this law from day one. However, the bit about nobody getting prosecuted for this is completely wrong. The only way for Bush to dodge this bullet is to get his guys charged and pardoned while he is still in office. Double jeopardy would prevent a real prosecution. Why wouldn't he do that? He's insulated, and after November there's nothing to lose for two years.
" Cronin said. "They are talking about trying to protect themselves." " Is any one really surprised? I'm not. One of the charteristic traits of an alcholic is not accepting responsibilty for their actions. George is a 'dry' drunk, unrecovered alcholic, for those who argue otherwise, stopping drinking does not fix the problems that caused the drinking in the first place, there for he is 'unrecovered'.
So he surrounds himself with co-dependents that dace to his tune. No surprise to anyone who has made it out the other side of a alcholic relationship.
No, no Cronnin might be turning up just in time. If all he has to do is remind the befuddled masses that one is responsible for the crime committed when the law was in effect he'll have done enough.
Cronnin's foolishness in the swiftboating incidents, his votes for Bush (he does get to vote for whom he pleases and regret it later, as do we all) are another matter that has nothing to do with the law he's talking about now.
(And, just by the way, when did it become a sin to gain perspective and see where one went wrong? No matter how long it takes, is that called learning from experience?)
Don't let Cronnin and his history distract you from the real task: people must be brought to understand that if the Congress passes some fool law to say that we are no longer resposnible for obeying the Geneva Convenstions or aspects thereof, that only means that from that day forward we are not. For all the time before, we are. Which means Bush and Gozales and Rummy are in trouble.
Gee.
Ain't that a shame?
