The "hiding among civilians" myth

Israel claims it's justified in bombing civilians because Hezbollah mingles with them. In fact, the militant group doesn't trust its civilians and stays as far away from them as possible.

The letters thread is now closed.

Some myth.

Mr. Prothero can deny Hizbollah's perfidious practice of hiding among civilians until he is blue in the face. Nevertheless, the facts remain. Hezbollah's headquarters were in the middle of Bint Jbeil, a village. That's one case of hiding among civilians. The IDF has released two videos already of katyusha launchers, one of a launcher being driven into a house's garage, and another of a launcher placed right between two apartment buildings.

Denial appears to be a river in Lebanon.

I hope you're happy,

So today in Seattle, a Pakistani Muslim walked into the Jewish Federation Center, screamed out: "I'm an American Muslim, and I'm mad at Israel" and shot five people, killing one.

Gee. I thought the "critics of Israel" were not "anti-Jewish." So why did this guy take out his anger at "Israeli Policies" by killing American Jews?

Because as much as you hypocrites (as Jeffery put well) hate to admit it, the world's hatred of Israel and the world's hatred of Jews is joined at the hip.

If Hezbollah and Hamas hate Israel and not Jews, then try to explain why their charters talk about exterminated Jews... not just Israelis.

Perhaps it's time for you to examine your own bigotries. It would be refreshing. But I expect nothing less than the continual denials.

Terrorists and those that harbor them

"And there are no people at all, except for the occasional Hezbollah scout on a motorbike armed only with a two-way radio, keeping an eye on things as Israeli jets and unmanned drones circle overhead."

I wonder, To whom is this scout is talking on the radio? It sounds to me like there are Hizbollah fighters in the area, but the author is not seeing them. Why? Perhaps because there are none so blind as those who will not see.

I feel for the Labanese people, but Hizballa needs to go!

Sounds like a painful story of people that want tolive normal lives, and are prevented by ...curcumctance? No, by those who obviously are not interested in Peace, 'cause that'd make them unemployeed. Hizballa is who that is!

I can't comprehand how is that people do not realize that Hizballa is 100% to blame for the invasion of Labanon. Even now that Europe got their doze of terror, there's still resistance, denial, whatever you want to call it...But basically many blame Israel for responding forcefully to the attack.

On personal level, if someone attacks you first, are they realistic to expect that you'll hit them just once, and say you'r even, or not respond at all? I doubt it, estpecially if we're talking about Muslim terrorists for whom force speaks louder that any peacefull words.

Anger, the path to the Dark Side.

If you killed my child, I would very much want to kill you.

If you killed my child and wife, I would want to kill you slowly.

If you killed my child and wife and mother, I would want to kill you and your family.

If you killed my child and wife and brother, I would want to kill your whole town.

If you kill any more of mine, I will destroy all like you.

A general can order an airstrike that he knows will kill innocents and not be a monster. Revenge is enough. Anger and hate make monsterous actions, but men are not monsters.

Same for a "terrorist"

All we Americans know about the Middle East are stories. Even those who visit there really only know mostly stories. We don't live there, it isn't our home.

The stories we're told yank our emotional chains. The angrier we get, the more irrational we become, and the easier the chain is to yank.

It's pretty clear who in this discussion is the most tightly bound to the chains of their anger.

Ah Jeffrey

Same old lying, ignorant crap. Apologist for ethnic cleansing, torture and mass murder. Israel is the premier ethnic cleanser on the planet - in fact, it is the only ethnic cleanser on the planet today. You call anyone who disagrees with you anti-semitic, even Jews.

The Israelis are not Nazis, but, if you wish for people to stop calling them Nazis, tell your Israeli buds to stop engaging in Nazi practices - dispossession and settlement of occupied territory, collective punishment, etc. All of these things that Israel does were criminalized in the Fourth Geneva Convention because they were Nazi practices. Lebabnon is just Israel's Lidice.

The "hiding among actors" myth

Camping in the Mountains East of LA in 1971, we drove into town. A sign "HOLLYWOOD" was set upon a ridge but one letter had fallen, not having a Camera and being short on recollection I often wonder which letter was missing.

The 7.1 Earthquake had taken Bridges down on Interstate Highway 5 and Charle Manson had recently done what is now going on in the Mid-East. Hollywood was indeed on it's way to Washinton as the Ray-Gun had fallen from his Buck-Board, forgotten the Workingman and promoted the "Trickle Down Dollar". Now President Reagan being a hero to this Administration has TRICKLED DOWN EVERY DOLLAR IN PRINT and is now Borrowing more and Printing more until the trickle can be stopped.

The Earthquake in 1971 STOPPED with merely a small number of tremors continuing later. That Earthquake had no Political or Religious motivation and cared not for who survived or who perished, as I recollect 71 deaths was the final count.

Charlie went to Jail, Ronnie went to Iran-Contra and the actors among us are not hiding. They are as brazen with the same lack of compassion that Ronald Reagan displayed as he "Fought for his Country", much like this present Washington Executive Administration and their ilk.

I need an answer as to which letter in HOLLYWOOD had fallen because in every level of Religion or Politics that I examine, the '71 Earthquake and that missing letter always leave me pondering. If indeed the Hilltop Sign read 'HO LYWOOD', the picture comes to my mind from a Hill in the Mid-East; but if the Hilltop Sign read 'HOL YWOOD', that very same picture arises in my mind, the picture is an enlightenment of PEACE.

The WALL came down when Ray-Gun was in office; however the lettering on Hilltop Sign still makes me wonder. We in America, made vast sums of money selling supplies to Germany during World War II. Some knew then what the World would later call the 'HOLOCAUST' and the entire World would set aside Land for those Survivors as a certainty for ignoring what many knew was happening in Europe.

Regardless of that missing letter the World can no longer remain in Penance, forgetting Sudan, the Sahile and the countless CIVILIANS, in LEBANON, IRAQ, and any other Country that any POWERFUL NATION cares to punish.

There will be NO going back to "An Eye For An Eye": 9-11, 9,011 Six Thousand, 2,580, 630, 42 or FOUR HUNDRED NINETY. The Buck-Board went back to Death Valley, Huntsville, Texas still wants to be NUMBER ONE and neither HOL YWOOD or HO LYWOOD can make a HOLY CAST!

I headed to Israel across the Sahara in late 1971 and 1972, thought that I could live there in Peace as Richard Nixon had been elected for a Second Term where these Bush boys went into training, many are now in this Administration taking lessons from "TRICKY DICK". My walk was from Morocco to Libya where I could not enter or pass.

Victor Charley was marching down the Ho Chi Minh Highway and it was time for me to return, I missed Israel completely, yet my heart stayed there, but MURDER is MURDER and I am opposed to eminent domain. The thought of Halliburton makng more MONEY from the sorrow of others is evenmore DISTRESSING.
