Pathetic
These goobers just can't admit their choir boy is a crook. These people are why Bush can never go under 30 percent, even if he was caught having gay sex with an illegal immigrant.

Situational Ethics
When I was a student at a church-supported Tennessee college in the 1970s, the philosophical emphasis was on following Christianity's unmutable moral standard and to not fall into the secular trap of situational ethics. Today it appears that the conservative movement is the personification of situational ethics. Yes, Ralph Reed lost in the Republican primary, but a significant number of conservatives still consider him a godly man, a worthy man, a moral man.
The quotes Greg Land picked up from Reed loyalists are further indication of conservatives' "us against them" mentality. I'm not sure why conservatives are so entrenched in their circle-the-wagons attitude, possibly because they felt "put down" by more successful and better educated spokespersons for liberal causes in the 1960s and 1970s. But by adhering to this circle-the-wagons approach, present-day conservatives have adopted the situational ethics decried by their predecessors as a sin of secular humanism.

A small correction
Not to get nitpicky, but Jimmy Baron was an alternative rock DJ, not a classic rock DJ. Normally, I wouldn't correct such a small thing, however I'd rather not give critics of Salon any ammo. Lord knows they wouldn't hesitate to write a blistering Op-Ed about the "liberal media" simply because of an incorrect music genre.
The article is fantastic, and as a resident of Atlanta (Alpharetta actually), you have no idea how happy I am to see Reed out of the running. Anyone with a television ad that talks about attacks from the "liberal media" needs to be kept out of public office. You might as well say you're being persecuted by aliens.
Keep up the good work.

Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish
Now maybe that political parasite Reid will go out and get a real job like the rest of us. Nothing is more disgusting than a creep who gets rich from other people's handouts. Reid, like most political consultants, is just a welfare queen in an expensive suit. He should go out and work for a living like the rest of us.

It's about time.
I am glad to see Republican voters are finally waking up to the reality that the current leaders of the Republican Party are realy nothing but hypocritcal, money-grubbing thieves.
I believe that Upton Sinclair said that when fascism came to this country, it would be wrapped in a flag, and carrying a Bible. It's been here since the rise of the Christian Coalition, and Reed was one of the main crusaders.
Good Riddance. I hope his next career move is jail.

Who Could Have Known?
What's this? Another Republican hypocrite whining endlessly about the decline of "traditional family values" as a distraction tactic while he crawls into bed with utterly corrupt business men like the common political whore he is? Why, I'm shocked! Shocked to my foundations! But seriously, even as I perform my Happy Dance over Reed's much-deserved loss, I'm under no delusions that there aren't plenty more where he came from, many of whome are far worse. Reed was a shoe-in to win this race, and it's only because some of his slimier activities on behalf of his big-business clients were brought to light courtesy of the Abromoff scandal that he lost it. Without another such political scandal that is too blantant to be ignored by the MSM, you can be sure that it's all business as usual for Reed's Republican cohorts in Washington and elsewhere this morning.

The American Taliban
Dennis in Jax wrote a rather good response, and I could never say it better. I would just like to add that there is a little more lesson here I think.
Just as was the case in Afghanistan, at first the radical religious right looks appealing to those who think that the country is "going to hell in a handbasket". Here, just as there, they rose to eminence, with the only difference being that the real architects here (Rove, etc.) never really believed in the "values", but rather recognized the ability to leverage them with typical "Union Beer-hall" tactics. However, just as Kabul, do it long enough and it gets old fast and even the "less than deep thinkers" cotton-on to the fact that it is a scam of sorts.
Ralph is just finding out that the "blush is off the rose", and Americans in general are regaining the true conservative position which is "all things in moderation", and not the neo-con knee-jerk reactions that have been cheered for the last few years as "bold examples of conservative values".

Quote
"I believe that Upton Sinclair said that when fascism came to this country, it would be wrapped in a flag, and carrying a Bible."
Actually, it was Sinclair Lewis who said, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."
Which is absolutely true. People like Reed's supporters never admit it, but rigidly enforcing their own moral standards on others it what they're all about -- yet, ironically, when they look around America and don't see their own values reflected everywhere, they feel oppressed.

Maybe They Should Read More...
Just reading this,I have to say I feel sorry(just a little)for the people who supported this disgraceful man.He continues to use these people for his own gain and they seem to just eat it like the canape and cake.Just the thought of these people continuing to believe the earth is flat because the NYT tells them it's round is quite upsetting and an excellent example of the power of denial.Maybe they should read more. But intellectual honesty seems to be a very scarce commodity in the world of politics, indeed.

Not such a grand old Flag...
over the Conquered, Enslaved.
How many more in their grave for this LYE?
Our GRAND OLD FLAG
Forever may it Wave
OVER FREEDOM, JUSTICE and LIBERTY.
May it unfurl once again for AMERICAN VALUES.
May the 'grand old party' goers, join Generel Douggie Mac
and FADE AWAY:
that "WE THE PEOPLE" may Sing:
You're a Grand Old Flag
A High Flying Flag
Home of the Brave and the Free.
An Emblem of what my heart sings of
for all of Humanity.
