The first TV briefing by Bush's new press secretary was a weepy triumph -- but is it too late for style points to matter?

  • I can't wait...

...to see the love his "conservative" fans have for him when he has to explain that the administration only wants to register their firearms "to protect us from the terrorists".

After all, they've trashed all the rest of the Bill of Rights...

  • Tony Snow

Whatever you think of his politics or style, a man who has been through what Tony Snow has been through, and will go through for the reset of his life, has every right to revel in his survivorship. His colon was removed due to colitis and cancer, and he will have a lifetime of frequent, sometimes painful, bowel movements, along with the daily fear that the cancer will come back.

Don't fear terrorists, criminals, immigrants, or the NSA. Fear cancer. It's a whole lot more likely to get you. In thirty years, the federal government has spent the same amount on cancer research as we spent the last nine months in Iraq. I may not respect Tony Snow's politics, but I have great respect for the man. We should all wear our yellow bracelets with pride.

  • Who asked the question about the bracelet?

Inquiring minds want to know. If it was Fox, I already smell a rat.

  • Give them a shiney coin and they change their tune...

I think the press is still lost. They obviously did not learn anything about themselves after the White House Correspondence Dinner's closing entertainer, Stephen Colbert, gave them a wake up call.

Tony Snow may be charismatic, but does that really matter when the reality is that charisma does not bring our troops home, does not solve the problems with immigration, and does not solve the issues with the administration favoring corporate america over its own citizens?...just to name a few.

The Bush administration has caused too much harm to the people of this country. We deserve justice, not a sweet talker.

  • Inquiring Minds Deserve Succinct Answers

The yellow bracelet question was asked by a reporter for the local ABC TV station.

Carl Cameron, the Fox News man in the room, forced Snow to backtrack on a prediction he had made about what the Congress will do with the immigration bill. "I overstepped and should not be making predictions about what the Senate will do," Snow said in response to the Fox question.

  • once a lapdog

who in the hell doesn't recognize that ubiquitous yellow bracelet at this point. not to mention, being unaware that snow had cancer. the whole bit smells.

  • It's a......

    SNOW JOB!!!!!!!

  • Tears for listeners

I just listened to Snow's debut press conference. I'll say this about that: he wasn't nearly as painful to watch as McClellan has been. I doubt that he'll give out much information, and it will be interesting to see at what point he resigns -- if he does -- but at least he doesn't make me wince with every word.

  • I believe

that's 29%. And as for Tony Snow, so what? He may be a saint in his personal life, but he is shilling for criminals. I am sympathetic to his medical pain, but that doesn't make me like him, or feel allied to him, or wish him well.

  • snow job, blow job

You know, Tony took the job as mouthpiece/apologist for the fascist fucks that think health care is for well of white folks. If they gave a flying cheney about cancer, or aids, or anything other than their own bottom line, mammon worshiping, golden calf fellating agenda maybe widdle Tony's tears might be moving. As it stands, fuck him royally, and thrice.

  • Snow in May

Perhaps an apt and old cliche: Pearls before swine. Anybody hungry for a BLT?

  • I take Snow Job over McClellan any day of the week and thrice on Sunday

I'm as anti-Bush as the next 67% of the Americans guys and gals (or whatever Bush's dismal approval ratings happen to be)

but I think it's a positive step that the administration has deigned to hire someone who's actually... wait for it...

COMPETENT. I bet it was difficult to kow-tow to the liberal media and stoop to hiring someone based on actual merit,

even though Mr Snow is obviously a tried and true conservative. I haven't been able to catch his first performance here

in Finland, but I'm sure McClellan's farcical press conferences are safely behind us now. If you don't like what Snow's

saying, at least you have the comfort of enjoying the performance!

  • So, what's he going to do

    ...for an encore?

Somehow, I think a performing press secretary just isn't going to play out well. Is he going to cry every time something bad comes out about Bush? That will be a lot of crying.

  • What I'll wait for

It is good to see someome in this administration showing some real emotion, unlike that forced emoting that Bush gives us. Snow will get his honeymoon with the press. But I would like to see someone shed a public tear for all those who have been killed in Iraq.

  • another time, another place

I'm sorry he had cancer. If he wants to talk about it and cry that's fine. Do it on Oprah. His behavior was not appropriate for the circumstances. He's turning his official role into bad vaudeville.

  • Don't they usually cry

When they're caught with their dicks in their secretaries and their hands in the till? I mean if you're going to have a nationally broadcast come to Jesus moment, timing is everything.

  • Tony Snow

Snow job. Tears about feeling sorry for himself hardly cuts it with the tears being shed because of the carnage wrought by his employers, in Iraq. Give me a break. Lets trot-out the 10,000 wounded and 2400 who can't as the side show to Tony's speedy recovery. And those sappy press core dolts. Just because Snow is more articulate than his predesessor don't be lulled into believing a word he is saying. Remember: his bosss lied us into a war, incometent Katrina response, health care, job out-sourcing, torture, extraordinary rendition, immigration, record deficit debacles and more. He is nothing more than a "dry look" hack for the Bushies.

  • Suckers one and all

A telegenic guy with the right political views is chosen to replace a badly programmed and discredited robot. A TV reporter just happens to ask about a very familiar bracelet on the new press secretary's wrist. The telegenic guy with the square jaw then has a personal meltdown, and the whole press corps goes, "Ah, how sad."

This wasn't staged? Bullshit. How credulous can those jerks calling themselves journalists be. I'd give a lot to know what Helen Thomas really thought.

The Repugs have been deliberately picking telegenic candidates and spokespeople for years now. Think baby-faced Ralph Reed. Snow is no different. We all react well to good-looking people, and a little theater can easily turn them into matinee idols. When you've got nothing to say, smile broadly and look good, or in this case cry. The sheeple won't care anymore that you didn't answer the questions from the fawning, limp, adoring, plastic correspondents.

I think I'll throw up now.
