Thanks for your clarity and even-handed reporting,

Mr. Shapiro. This was well done and easy to follow.

Although I think scandal will be part of this story, I doubt that it will extend to prostitution, at least where Goss is concerned. He isn't the target of a criminal investigation that I have read of, but his appointee, Dusty Foggo, is.

Two former CIA analysts/agents were guests on the Jim Lehrer News Hour (PBS) this evening, and an interesting tidbit came out: Porter Goss upset the CIA regulars by importing many staff members from his Congressional office, one of whom was a former CIA employee who had already been kicked out of the CIA for pilfering bacon from a local supermarket. I don't know whether this story is true, but if it is, it shows the lack of vetting that seems to be so rampant in D.C. these days.

I was reminded of how Rudy Guliani's sidekick, Bernard Kerik, was nominated to be the head of Homeland Security before someone actually looked at his corrupt background and prompted him to use a "Nannygate" excuse to withdraw. This did not keep the television media from continuing to invite him to appear as an expert guest on their shows following Hurricane Katrina and the failure of FEMA. What's that old saying about the pot calling the kettle black?

If Foggo winds up in prison, will we still have Porter Goss appearing as a commentator on "Hardball?" I'm not aking any bets.

You are our boy, bought and paid for, until we have no further use for you.

Anything that could make us look bad that we can't control the spin, and you're out of here.

Even if we need the smokescreen of dumping you to buy two days of headlines and divert attention from something even nastier than usual we're doing.

...overheard at Goss's initial WH briefing.

They Don't Do Anything Without A Plan??

Anyone can have a plan:

the French had a plan at Dien Bien Phu...

Napolean had a plan at Waterloo...

Nixon had a plan at Watergate...

JFK had a plan at the Bay of Pigs...

the neocons had a great plan for Iraq...

...that doesn't mean the plan is worth a damn.

Additionally, a plan must be properly executed. Our boys in Washington have proven themselves unequaled in their ability to execute poorly, only "succeeding" in manipulating a couple of elections at the margins.

If appointing an unqualified hack, then hastily "resigning" him to obscure some related malfeasance is your idea of a brilliant "plan," there are positions in the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security waiting for you... or perhaps you'd prefer working on Joe Lieberman's staff.

CIA suspicions

Dusty Foggo? Goss?

Has the CIA been taken over by some of George Lucas' less-felicitiously-named aliens? From Uranus? Or just rejects from the Abercrombie and Fitch catalog?

The Not So Spooky Demise of the CIA

The CIA stopped being the an agency central to the intelligence needs of our country when this administration prostituted it for its own politcal purpose of creating war in Iraq. This is just another chapter in the history of this "kestone kops" administration.

The Greatest Era of the CIA was under Clinton/Gore

Under Clinton/Gore our CIA was a force to be reckoned with. At the end of the 20th Century there were terrorist plots to create chaos during citizens' gathering and celebrations that were quietly, and competently dealt with. The Y2K threat (which was real) was handled so efficiently that it was thought to be a myth, until people saw Bush Co in action. In Clinton/Gore era, People did their jobs without fanfare or glory mongering.

Then Bush came in and put in his cronies, people loyal to him, payback for favors, regardless of experience or qualifications. How many CIA heads does this make in six years? Three? Whose counting???

We need to take back the Senate and House in 2006 and impeach this man's entire cabinet for crimes against the American people; for War-profiteering, and corruption, for lies (sound familiar, anyone?)and not the least, for negligence leading to 9/11 resulting in the deaths of 3000 US citizens.

If the megalomania that we now have to put up with coming from this administration were only wrong it would be one thing; however, as immoral as it is, what's worse is that it is also dangerous to every US citizen -- here and abroad, and if not definitively dealt with so as to send a message to the world -- friends and enemies -- will set a precedent for generations to come.

The National Enquirer would have had photographs from the contractors parties, it would have had a headline screaming about CIA bigwigs being involved with hookers.

Once again I have to say.. what a difference a decade makes.

Dusty, Scooter, Duke....

Sounds like this country has been handed over to a Doggie Day Care agency.

Does Porter Goss know Brent Kovar ?

Hmmmm,I wonder if Mr.Goss knows Mr.Brent Kovar of Clearwater,Florida whose DC-9 was just busted in Campeche,Mexico with over 5 tons of cocaine on board ? The plane was bought with money defrauded from investors in a penny stock scam,Skyway Communications.Kovar claims to be CIA connected and coincidentally Royal Sons which was a co-owner of that DC-9 still confiscated and being investigated in Mexico once claimed Huffman Avciation in Venice,Florida as its home address.Wally Hilliard of Huffman Aviation is pal to both Jeb Bush and Kathrine Harris.

Speaking of which,in my opinion knowing the owner of the 'flight school' where Mohamed Atta trained as Jeb Bush did and with his daddy 'Poppy' Bush's Saudi connections and yet still missing a major Sauidi terrorist training operation from own his friend's 'flight school'is incompetence beyond my wildest imagination.Brent Kovar by the way was appointed to a Republican business council by Tom DeLay.
