THE GOOD DIE YOUNG

evil lives on

has anyone analyzed the patterns of his sneers for clues to when the next 9/11 style attack is coming from the US Government?

Natural selection

The American Right has provided us with yet another example of why Charles Darwin may have been excessively optimistic about our species.

Re: Comparing Cheney to Burr

Yes, it might be considered to be an insult to Burr. Burr, unlike you-know-who, had a distinguished military record.

Comparing Cheney and Burr

Don't you think that is pretty demeaning and insulting to Aaron Burr?

Tuesday, February 14, 2006 01:54 PM

Hey Poco,

Is it news worthy now that the man who was shot has now suffered a heart attack? The Vice President may have accidentally caused a man to end up in the ICU, then suffer a heart attack. SO is it still NOT real news?

Say Goodnight, Dick

It is really time. Nice article Cary.

There's something to be said for having an editor

Dear Cary,

I usually enjoy your advice column, even when I take issue with your advice. However, this piece about the V.P. is just...creepy. If you were trying for political commentary, you missed. If you were trying to be sarcastic or even bombastic, you were way off the mark. And just in case you were mearly tring to be funny, well, don't quit the day job, so to speak. A few words of advice to the online Dear Abby: next time sit on a topical piece for 24 hours, and then let an editor at least skim it. Even a Salon.com editor might have found reason to encourage you to delete this file. This piece just plain sucked. It was actually painful to read.

Find the Flask and Win a Trip to Chappaquidick

I'm interested in what the hunting party had for lunch on Saturday. Especially the beverages. Wake me up when our free press turns that rock over.

Re: Peggy Carey's comment on negligible homicide

If Mr. Whittington does die, the Republicans will finally have their very own Chappaquiddick, because you know nothing will happen to Cheney.

Tuesday, February 14, 2006 12:24 PM

If you're going to run satirical humor

at least try to make it funny...

Blech....Cary, keep your day job.

Cheney

Note to Peggy: silly, silly, silly. You're confusing facts with logic when say that if Cheney was a client of yours, he'd be charged. This is Cheney we're talking about! He's above the law. He authorizes an underling to blow a CIA operative's cover with seeming impunity, his "former" company gets contracts without bidding in the occupation of a country. When it came time to serve his own country,he had "other priorities". Why would a triflin' matter like shooting someone incur any consequences for him? Turns out Cheney managed to wolf down a mighty fine dinner after the shooting too.

Tuesday, February 14, 2006 11:27 AM

Interviews should of occured immediately after the shooting ....

How he was allowed to clean up, sleep and sort through stories for 12 hours is amazing to me.

No one else would have been given such an enourmous amount of latitude.

This whole thing stinks from the head.

What Now

CNN has just reported that Mr. Whittington has suffered a heart attack from a piece of bird shot that traveled to his heart.

Sounds like more than skin wounds to me.

If he dies, should the VP be charged with negligent homicide?

I know my clients would be.

When vice presidents shoot people

This is hardly unprecidented. Aaron Burr was vice president and was, I believe, serving when he shot Alexander Hamilton.

Cheney is in appropriate company.

Wonderful point Wworstell

These pretend tough guys run around (I am sorry) drive around in the woods shooting at pen raised birds.

They are such $hitty sportsmen that they consider this sport.

What in the hell is sporting about it?

Join the rest of the great unwashed in the woods or on a duck blind and shoot birds that have a fighting chance to escape.

The folks who defend this crap have never hunted in their lives. I hate PETA but they are right about these dude-ranches where make believe tough guys go out and shoot at daffy-duck and bambi.

Do you think these guys would have a fighting chance with 500 pounds razorback bearing down on them if it wasn't on a really short leash?

Hunter my a$$.

Shooting Lawyers IS on Message

What could gladden the heart of a conservative more than to know that our beloved Vice President has stood up to the trial lawyers and said, in the strongest way possible, "your kind deserves a face full of buckshot." Reagan would be proud.

Hunters, Politicians, and Democracy

This article (sorry if I'm hurting copyright, maybe it will help circulation)

called "Hunting Democracy" from the Autumn 2005 issue of Montana: The Magazine of

Western History, casts some interesting light on hunting and its overtones in

American politics, and on the Veep and his "canned hunting" in particular. Those

from the left need to learn now to drive the wedge between the country-club Republicans and the "rugged individualist" Republicans (or more properly, the associated Independents).

A Real Conservative

NOW I get it. A "real" conservative is one that has no idea what the merits of an argument are, he just insults the people making it. Republican and Democrat are established parties, yes, but are you insinuating that William Weld or George Pataki is the same as Sam Brownback or John Ashcroft?

I love that you have no idea what a liberal is, you just know it isn't you. That's a shame. For all you know it could mean, in part that you're an intelligent, compassionate, rational human being who realizes that we're all part of a society and need to behave as such. But you're right, that couldn't be you, could it?

P.S. I'm a real liberal, not the caricature or straw man that "conservatives" like to make up so they have someone to make their insane arguments look better

There are so many problems with this story...where do I start?

(1) Hunting by caravan...This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone hunting by car. Where is the sport in that?

(2) Where were the bird dogs? Everytime in my life that I have ever gone bird hunting a bird dog has been at my side, how in the hell were they retrieving the birds?

(3) Where is the sport of shooting pen raised prey? On some of these freaking farms they actually clip the birds wings to limit their flight. Where is the sport in that ?

(4) How about basic gun safety? When you pull the trigger it is your job to know what is going on to your sides and in front of you.

(5) Unless the victim was standing on top of the VP the only way he shoots him in the face is if he is aiming awfully low, which is an indication the VP was cherry-picking the birds. Not even giving them a chance to get free of the cages and brush. I might be wrong but I doubt it from what has been reported.

As a lefty-pinko who has shot birds of all kind, deer and wild-pig the Vice President's lack of common sense, a sporting heart and lack of respect for basic gun safety on Saturday is for me the real story here. I mean where is the NRA, he should be screamed at anyone who respects the wilds and the sport of hunting.

As someone who loves hunting I am pi$$ed that this pretend outdoors man and his petite and elite friends would go out and shame the sport.

What a guy.
