There's something to be said for having an editor

    Dear Cary,

I usually enjoy your advice column, even when I take issue with your advice. However, this piece about the V.P. is just...creepy. If you were trying for political commentary, you missed. If you were trying to be sarcastic or even bombastic, you were way off the mark. And just in case you were mearly tring to be funny, well, don't quit the day job, so to speak. A few words of advice to the online Dear Abby: next time sit on a topical piece for 24 hours, and then let an editor at least skim it. Even a Salon.com editor might have found reason to encourage you to delete this file. This piece just plain sucked. It was actually painful to read.
