Make it an Issue of it
There is one thing that Republicans are very good at is taking something and making an issue out of it. They don’t wait for the polls to tell them when something is important. They go out there and make a fuss. They hit the weekend political show, send off press releases, and do whatever is needed to make their concerns public. They basically shape the way people should think about certain issues and subsequent polling usually reflect this. It is about time for the Democratic Party to be proactive and be shapers of public opinion instead of being its victim.

New Frame: Republicans are weak on freedom
Why do the Democrats continue to let the Republicans frame the issues - and then play right into their hands by becoming defensive or trying to be just like them????
If Republicans wanna call Democrats "weak on security," let's turn it around and attack Republicans as being weak on freedom.

Waiting for the Republicans to Self-Destruct?
Are you kidding me?
What exactly would these Democrats waiting for the Republican Party to self-destruct like to see? What exactly are they hoping and waiting for?
Are they waiting for major scandals within the Republican leadership? Scandals involving ethics, illegal business transactions, bribery, abuses of power? Scandals of such magnitude that several Republican members of congress will be forced to resign in shame?
Maybe they're waiting for the Republicans to make some major strategic blunder that puts them on the wrong side of the vast majority of Americans. Oh, I don't know... something where the President and the Republican leadership grossly overreaches into the personal lives of a family over some end-of-life issue and find themselves looking at a 75% disapproval rating?
Perhaps they're waiting to see whether the Bush Administration's policies of pre-emptive, unilateral warfare bring us an easy quick, safe, decisive and bloodless victory or degenerates into a massive tactical and strategic catastrophe that kills our troops, drains our treasury, threatens the preparedness of our armed forces, lessens our standing in the world and undermines the very effort it was purported to support.
Possibly, they're waiting for some grotesque distortion of the constitution by the executive branch? Some massive and unwarranted and illegal overreach of executive authority that places the Republic in a constitutional crisis?
Or perhaps they're just waiting for that glorious trifecta day where...
President Bush proclaims himself Emperor Gaius Ceasar Walker Bush, Protector of the Faith, Defender of the Realm, Watcher of the Seals, Keeper of the Keys and Master of his Domain, on the very same day that videotapes emerge showing President Bush, Dick Cheny, Donald Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, Ken Mehlman, Scott McClellan, Ari Fleischer, Paul Wolfowitz, John Ashcroft, Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff all having group sex with Jeff 'Guckert' Gannon and on the very same day that both North Korea and Iran successfully test their atomic weapons and declare their intention to sell them to al Qaida.
Is that what it would take to wake Democrats from their self-induced stupor? Would they consider that self-destruction? Might that give them the courage to stand up for a goddamn principle for once?
Consultants may indeed be in the business of winning elections, but Democratic consultants DON’T WIN!!! They haven’t WON ANYTHING in nearly a decade because they are so obsessed with finding that precious center that they have forgotten that people respond to principle, to strength, to resolve, to will. The 2000 election should never have even been close. It should never have been a contest. In 2000, George W. Bush was a bumbling, blinding, blithering idiot with neither the experience, skill, knowledge or character to defeat anyone. Coming off of the longest period of peace and prosperity in our nation’s history, Al Gore could have won in a 49 state landslide. But his campaign was run so tepidly, with such a mealy-mouthed, milquetoast, lack of character and resolve and strength that he was easily caricatured as a wimp, as a coward, as in intellectually dishonest weirdo that stood for nothing. And as a result, we get the boorish, arrogant, anti-intellectual frat-boy, because HE PROJECTED ‘STENGTH.’ That Bush and his cohort are among the most cowardly, spineless, characterless, inept, double-speaking worms that have ever slithered across the face of the earth matters less than the fact that they at least have a vision and stick with it.
Democrats and their consultants need to wake up and call these slithering vermin for exactly what they are, deceitful, murderous thugs whose ideology harks back to the depths of the feudal era. We need to call them what they are, elitist plutocrats with neither compassion nor interest in anyone who earns less than seven or eight figures per year.
We need to stop being ashamed to believe in the democratic ideals that allowed us to govern successfully through the darkest days of our Republic. And we need to understand that this incarnation of the Republican party is actively engaging in class warfare, not merely talking about it, but actually fighting it. Democrats need to acknowledge this fact and reclaim the mantle of the people they purportedly represent. Until they do, until they recognize that it is by loudly and proudly representing the principles upon which this country was founded, no amount of consulting or messaging will make any difference. Because unless we believe in our own ideals, how can we hope to convince anyone to believe in us?
End Rant.

Democrat Campaign Strategists?
If the Democrat strategists knew what the freck they were doing, we'd be in the second term of the Gore administration instead of the mess we have now.
I'm really tired of all the flapping jaws -- the so-called leaders of the Democratic Party should (and here's a novel idea) LEAD the party and do what's right instead of being brainwashed by irrelevant advisors. It would be refreshing to see Dems frame the issues for a change instead of bending over for the Bushies. Grow backbones, dammitall.

I pay these A-hole's Salaries...
And I'm pissed!
Every month since 2002, I allow the DNC to charge my credit card a set amount.
I think I'll cancel the payment.
Lessee...Dems voting for the excreble Bankruptcy Bill...letting the issue of lack of body armor for troops wither on the vine for two years...now this bullshit where one of our incompetent, moronic, walking-asshole "strategists" has the gall to criticize those like me who would rather side with the Founding Fathers and the Constitution instead of the puddle-of-piss cowardly traitors who see a terrorist in every shadow. It's like these people don't remember mutually-assured destruction.
(Oh, and Hillary? They might like you in Manhattan, but out here in the red states we Dems see you as an equivocating, gutless wonder who will do anything to get elected. We'll do anything to keep you off our ticket. Stay in the Senate or go away. Same for you Kerry.)
