Abramoff-Scanlon School of Sleaze

Wednesday's Senate hearings yielded more scandalous revelations about how the dynamic lobbying duo bilked American Indian tribes out of millions and used the money to win elections for their Republican clients.

WACKOS

Boy oh BOY did Mike Scanlon get it right for once these people fell for the Ralph Reed pitch

Religious Right

While I haven't been really following the Abramoff issue very much (real life cutting into politics), the mention of Christians being called 'wackos' drew my attention so I boned up on the issue a little and am mildly amused that the left is making such a big deal about name calling and attempts to use factions within the party. For an example of how the left wing kooks are used, refer to moveon.org and Michael Moore. btw, how IS Moore's Halliburton stock doing these days?

I and my fellow compatriots on the religious right get involved in issues that concern us, regardless of who brings them to our attention. The amplification of our voices being heard on issues we support/oppose by phone calls, email campaigns, etc..... is welcome no matter what quarter it comes from.

"wackos"

Wow, a republican's on record as referring to members of the religious right as "wackos". And it's a former aide to Rep Tom DeLay no less.

Maybe now conservatives will begin to wake up to the hypocrisy in the current GOP.

ABRAMOFF- SCANLON SCHOOL OF SLEASE

IT DOESN'T SUPRISE ME ANY LONGER THAT THESE TWO MISCREANTS, AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION FROM ALL SIDES.THE SLEASE FACTOR IS HIGHER THAN I IMAGINED.I HOPE SOMEONE HAS THE POLITICAL WILL TO KEEP UP THESE INVESTIGATIONS RUNNING AND EXPOSE THESE PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY REALLY ARE.THE REPUBLICANS,AND THIS ADMINISTRATION IS RUINING THIS COUNTRY.IT'S TIME THE MEDIA RATCHET UP THE CRITIQUE.

What did Tommy know?

I want to hear the loyal Republicans spin themselves silly defending Tom Delay. Did Tom know what the scams Abramoff and Scanlon were running? If he did and said nothing, he is as corrupt as they are. If he didn't, he is an idiot. Either way the man doesn't belong in Congress. He should either be in jail or clearing roadkill from the sides of highways.

amusing hearings

By chance, I caught about a half hour of these hearings last night after flipping on CSPAN while doing the dishes. It was Griles testifying, and what was amusing was that he was so obviously lying, and pathetically protesting his innocence.

McCain would ask him a question, and he would give an answer to some other question. Did you have any other meetings with Abramoff? ... "He was only in my office that one time." Did you try to get invited to those meetings? ... "I didn't attend those meetings." Well, did you try to get into those meetings? ... "I could have attended if I wanted." And so on.

And then he sucked up to the committee and basically said that he was shocked to learn that there was gambling in Rick's Cafe in Casablanca. And it was all made worse by the fact that his face was bright red on the TV screen.

Contempt

I suppose I should be shocked, shocked, shocked at William Scanlon's contempt for the Christian right. But, of course, all the big boys sneer at Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the rest of the useful idiots behind their backs. And I, for one, am oddly comforted. The big money boys who own and run the country are ruthless, greedy, short-sighted bastards, but at least, they aren't stupid enough to entertain the notion that Falwell and company have a clue.

We need an echo chamber

Here is something that needs to be repeated and broadcasted ever where. I just wish the left side had an echo chanber that came close to the right sides echo chamber. Because if we did have such a thing, this would be talked about on every show, "The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees," Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. "Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them."

It is just disturbing to see that the political leaders of the religious conservatives actually think about them.

Don't forget the Bob Ehrlich connection

Ed Miller, the chief of staff to Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich, has been the subject of at least one article tying him to the Abramoff investigation. Apparently Federal prosecutors were curious about why a million dollars of Abramoff's money was laundered through a shell corporation Ed Miller set up.

The articles are in the Sunpapers archive.
