respect

to any restaurant that gives the boot to diners who act like assholes to the staff.

That's a place I'll go back to.

Yes, sometimes, a waiter or waitress might deserve it... but for some reason, I've never actually seen those times.

It's always some jerk at a table...

This was a nice interview with someone interesting.

Nice change of pace and a throwback to the salon.com of old.

Mr. White is a bully

I appreciate Mr. White's concern for his customers. It's good to know that he understands that for most people, going to an expensive restaurant is a special treat. As a former waiter, I like that he puts concern for his wait staff above rude and disruptive customers.

On the other hand, he is a bully (or at least was; perhaps he has grown up). I would not give my money to a restaurant where the boss bullied his workers. There is no excuse for bullying, ever.

giving bad customers the boot

That's great. More restauranteurs should do that, instead of treating the customer as king, when the customer is often the assh0le.

Throw out obnoxious morons who ruin everyone's good time?

What a concept!! Too bad they don't do this everywhere (like Shea Stadium, for example).

I am impressed with the way this man does business.

Thanks, Salon, But...

...I heard these identical words when this petite martinette was interviewed by Michael Krasny a couple of weeks ago.

Really, there must be SOMEONE else to write about. Especially relating to food.

No philosopher

People like Ramsay and White are so tiresome, the way they behave as if they have some kind of importance. They cook food for people in restaurants, for heaven's sake. They're even less important than rock stars. They're responsible for a product that touches maybe a few thousand people a year, less than a decent indie band with a website. Can anyone think of a simgle way in which Marco Pierre White has affected the world for the rest of us? Not even the world of eating? No, I thought not. And yet here he is, pontificating as if he were a philosopher or a guru. And having his words noted down by a scribe so that the people may hear.

Where's the perspective? Where is the mention in this article that White is a guy who cooks stuff for people to eat, and is also rather a jerk? He could have written this interview himself and it wouldn't have been more adoring.
