It would be mind blowing. Charles Darwin, naturalist and zombie killer, travels a distopian nightmare and struggles to find the missing link that will unravel the power of "The Church". In the end he finds out the secret of man's origin and has a one on one battle with Flying Spaghetti Monster. Of course Mickey Rourke will have to play Darwin in the movie adaption.
I wish that I could shut him up but that would make me akin to one of his ilk... Would that the atheist/agnostic league in our civilized portion of the planet were as mean-spirited and intellectually frugal as the people that believe what Mike Seaver says. We might just stand a chance.
Is the sun or the Earth at the center of the solar system?
Galileo was a genius and a courageous soul, but it wasn't his standing up to the Pope that led to the triumph of the scientific model of the heavens over the Christian model.
It was the tide tables that did it. Sailors and merchants discovered that the tide tables computed using the scientific heliocentric model were more accurate than the tide tables computed by the Christian geocentric model.
The scientific truth about the heavens had an economic value that Christians could not refute or deny or ban from discussion.
It's the same with evolution. There's an economic value in the scientific truth there, too, in a myriad of ways that panting fools like Kirk Cameron can't even begin to comprehend.
Cerritos College?? Never heard of it - that's one of the Top 50? I can't imagine any student who is not already a religious wingnut even bothering to read the intro to the book.
Who ever reads introductions?
College students have far too much to read as it is. Only those students firmly entrenched one side of this "debate" are going to read it, either to prop up their shaky world view or for a little comedy.
Seriously. I watched the first clip, and I was actually feeling physically ill.
I watched the second, and I am actually seriously in love. Whatta gal! Smokin' hot, and smart smart smart too. And with a sexy accent, great hair, and a far more reasoned and intelligent response to Cameron's great steaming pile of crud than I could come up with.
Except that Salon gave him free PR. Good job - retards shilling for retards.
People need to know...
Because maybe if those targeted 50,000 students knew they were getting their free book from a ministry that advises its practitioners on how to “shut up” a Jew or explain to a homosexual that he’s damned, they might not be so keen on it.
Um, these are COLLEGE KIDS we're talking about. Not only are they fairly smart, they are also, almost all of them, online. The internet being what it is, do you really think they haven't heard about this? I'd say within a couple of days at most, pretty much every university on that list will not only be full of kids who know about the scam, they'll also have seen the Romanian Goddess of Snark's brilliant video, and will be lining up to grab as many copies of that books as possible so they can rip the offending pages out right in front of the volunteers.
Hell, I think they should set up tables fifty feet away, with big trash cans next to them, and offer to do the deed for anyone who accepts one of those books. It would DRIVE THE FUNDIES INSANE. And create a nice mountain of paper, which can then be recylced as firelighters, wrappings for fish, or toilet paper. Everybody wins!
Although I'm not sure if you could fit all the TRUE horrors about Christianity in those 50 pages much less have space to make up some $#!T.
Frankly I think this is going to backfire on them. That book means a lot to some people and someone's going to decide they want to fire back.
Galileo was a genius and a courageous soul, but it wasn't his standing up to the Pope that led to the triumph of the scientific model of the heavens over the Christian model.
No it was the tireless work of Church deacon Copernicus that mathematically proved the heliocentric model and Tycho Brahe who was also a card carrying catholic proved it with astronomical data. Galileo popularized it by making fun of his of best friend the Pope which got him into trouble. Oh yeah, the church was going to let Galileo publish if they could respond to his argument with a rebuttal BUT GALILEO RENEGED ON THE DEAL. Oh guess who help spread Galileo's ideas. Yep, PROTESTANTS.
Finally there is no Christian model. It's Aristotle's model.
...and even if there were 100 intros appended to it. Don't you see, it only creates more interest in Darwin's ideas and anyone who's got a brain will see right through the intro. If they don't, we don't want them on our side anyway.
Too many people are born with a mental firewall that permits them the ability to learn how to pee into a toilet but denies them the ability to use simple logic.
Highly educated people believing in the literal Bible exhibit the effect of this firewall perfectly. How can someone earn an advanced degree and believe that the world was created in six days?
Every species has the bright and the not-so-bright, even humans.
I hope there will be freedom of speech garbage cans and bonfires available on those campuses as well. This is disgusting.
And no, Liberty University doesn't count. This guy misses the whole point of college which is to teach students how to weed out bullshit like this. This "experiment" was doomed from the start. And yes, the Nazi meme has been around a while. Still doesn't hold up as evolution was never intended to be a social model (hear that free marketers?). It's rather sad when you have to explain this to a grown adult twice your age (as I've had to do). People who go onto college usually aren't looking to have their preconcieved biases confirmed (college republicans not withstanding). They are looking to be taught critical thinking skills. Any amount of which would immediatly discredit this thing.
Cameron's hardly the debater when it comes to this issue anyway. I once saw a "debate" (I don't know if you can call it that if only one side has any evidence) where all he did was bring out drawings mocking transitional species and then turned around and made emotional pleas to the audience to accept Jesus. The sad thing is, this was his idea of coming prepared.
And what is the big deal with most scientists being atheists? How exactly does that keep you from coming up with evidence to back up your beliefs? How does it make the evidence for evolution go away? Either you can back up your claims or you can't. Ever since Fox News was founded the idea that you can't reach the public just doesn't fly anymore. You guys have your own network now. Stop playing victim.
