To the editors

Isaac Asimov, not Asmimov.

Not Merely...

the most trusted but the most sane man in America (other than Bill Moyers). He spoke up and told the truth about invading Iraq being a huge mistake and WRONG when most of the rest of the media jumped into Bush's back pocket. He was down-to-earth and genuine in every way.

"I'm only loved because ..."

He laughed and replied, "I'm only loved because they don't know what I think."

Not exactly. I think people loved him because most of the time, they didn't know his opinion. So they took it that much more seriously when he did express it, whether they agreed with him or not.

We should report what people need to know, not what they want to hear....

Walter Cronkite, bemoaning the state of news in 2003.

Not that he was perfect, but he was a damn site better than any of the corporate shill talking heads today.

He will be missed

Walter was a great guy and a stellar newsman. Not too many of them left nowadays.

Cronkite & Sevareid

Cronkite: Great journalist to be sure, but I suspect Eric Sevareid inspired as many to go into journalism as did Cronkite. May be because Sevareid never became an "anchorman".

"Cronkite moment"

That term, which describes LBJ realizing that he'd lost Cronkite, and therefore Middle America, tells us most of what we need to know about how and why Cronkite was the most trusted man in America.

At his best, which was most of the time, he spoke simultaneously to and for America.

I'm only sorry that he saw how debased the art form he helped create has become.

Billy Graham???

What in God's sake impelled you to give a platform to that bigoted s---bag Billy Graham?

State of the Art

Over the next days/weeks, we are going to hear all the "personalities" of TV news giving Walter Cronkite the encomiums he so richly deserves.

Why doesn't just one of them try to emulate him?

Another Fairness Doctrine fan who was king of the alphabets

Say bye-bye to Rather, Gibson, Katie Koran and the rest of the bunch of two-bit talking heads. Reagan fixed it for us.

Much to the dismay of Baracky the Bullcrapper, Jowinkle and Fiends.
