Porn in a flash

A troubling surge in creepy "upskirt" photography has lawmakers in a twist -- and the body parts of women posted all over the Internet.

The letters thread is now closed.

I guess I miss your point

You'll get fired because of sexism as women are considered the inferior gender and all that they touch is tainted. You and your flouncy skirts are the proof of sexism. You've done well today, Brightstar!

But you seem to be having such a fun time making your point, that it MUST be all good!

it's just that simple

The fact that many women wear short skirts does not mean that many women wear skirts to sexually attract men. I like the feeling of freedom in a skirt. I can move better. I can feel cold wind and hot breezes.

I AM NOT WEARING IT TO GET OGLED, PHOTOGRAPHED, TOUCHED, ASKED OUT, HIT ON, or RAPED. GET THE FUCK OFF MY BODY.

There isn't a fine line, either, or shades of gray. Posting or even photographing a woman's body without her knowledge FOR SEXUAL GRATIFICATION, is wrong. I don't care if it's an upskirt, downchest, elevator heist, subway accident or "i liked her face." If you like her, talk to her, you fucking degenerate.

looking at women?

@Brightstar - this is NOT about men looking at women.

This is about men shoving a camera under a skirt, taking pictures and/or posting them on-line so mental midgets can get some weird thrill out of looking at panty pictures taking against most women's will.

Please - DO continue looking at women. Women enjoy it and like to look at men. Attraction is one of the nice things about being alive.

Just don't stare and drool. Or grap. Or yell 'suck my dick bitch'. Or shove cameras up under our skirt. We really don't like that.

Why is the distiction so hard to get?

@ paradisefound24

Uh ... better read up on legal definitions of insanity.

Self-defense will work better. Of course you could argue that your defense needs go beyond the average "reasonable" person, but I wouldn't count on it getting you acquited.

Here's a better idea: If you kill the fella, unzip his pants and pull out his penis. You can always claim he was trying to rape you.

Oh, and here's a hint about polygraph tests: Yes, you can pass them.

thanks a lot cabdriver

now i can't stop picturing what that Alien Redux prosthetic might look like - but even better would be the look on the face of the perv who tries to upskirt someone wearing one

i've been trying to also imagine a society in which men do not feel the "right" or the need to appropriate women's bodies in any non-consensual manner they choose, but THAT i just can't picture

Facts of life

The fact that many women wear short skirts does not mean that many women wear skirts to sexually attract men.

"The fact that many men pursue money and power does not mean that many men pursue money and power to sexually attract women."

You know, the above paragraph makes ZERO sense. Sure, there are gay men, and there are married men. But there is only a small percentage of men who are NOT FLATTERED by female attention.

If the obverse is true, that most women do not wear skirts (and other accoutrements) to attract men's atention, then women have sad, sordid lives. Or else they are lying.

I lean toward the lying.

Men are being industrious

Why is the distiction so hard to get?,/b>

Reducing the risk by sharing data. After all, who wants to have to go find places and opportunities to peek at women all the time.

I really think, ultimately, if it was happening all the time everywhere, it might be something to curb societally, but the scale at which it occurs, in a largely public setting, makes it a virtual nonissue.

If I sat in shorts on a hillside, and some guy saw my sack and decided to photograph into my shorts, what do I give a flip? He is not going to proceed to rape or assault me. I would want anonymity, head scratched out of the image, but otherwise, it is much ado about nothing more than women wanting to control every aspect of men and their lives and libidos, which AIN'T EVER GONNA HAPPEN (and which, incidentally, you ought to thank God for this good thing).

Starting Pool Now

I'm going to go ahead and start that betting pool where we all guess how long it takes until the psycho being dragged away in cuffs on the news turns out to be Brightstar.

A practical solution, possibly

A good friend of mine is an extremely attractive woman who paid her way through college and medical school by modeling bathing suits and underwear. She once told me that although she should be able to wear whatever she feels like wearing in public, she has a simple rule. When she goes out to the mall, the supermarket, an outdoor concert, waking her dog, etc, she wears pants or walking shorts, depending on the weather. When she goes to the movies, restaurants, indoor concerts, parties, etc, she feels free to wear short skirts, short dresses, revealing blouses, etc. Her reasoning-why wear titillating cloths in crowded places in a society that has so many sexually obsessed and sexually repressed people? She knows that she should be able to wear whatever she wants to wear, but why take unnecessary risks? In her words:"I'd rather wear baggy jeans than get raped in the mall's parking lot because my mini skirt has driven some creep crazy."

I'm just giddy as a little schoolgirl

I just FINALLY received an offer of a Marketing Director position for a tech company BACK in Austin for oodles more money than the pissant amount I am now earning.

I get to move back to Awesome Austin from UBER SUCKY Houston, I {hopefully} get to snatch my house from foreclosure and live to sell it another day (in THREE decades, when the market finally comes back to 2006 levels, but hey, still better than living in a rental), and I get to finally graduate from low paying stinky professional services marketing (with its constant proposals generation).

All this AND Obama?

If I am dragged off, it will be from a terminal case of happiness.
