First lady got back

I'm a black woman who never thought I'd see a powerful, beautiful female with a body like mine in the White House. Then I saw Michelle Obama -- and her booty!

The letters thread is now closed.

Let's see that booty!

How about a Michelle booty buns calendar?

They could sell it to help pay the laid off auto workers.

There could be several versions:

-The Christian-Mormon version: $100.00

- The Playboy version: Limited Edition bids start at $1000.00

- The absolute funky wunky nothing left to the imagination version: Only 100 available - private discrete bids only please.

Joan Walsh's racism

GBT is right on this:

--Erin's opinion reflects her low self esteem and need to be validated by white liberals not a surprise really given her history as a writer..--

The really pathetic part is that this type of self-sterotyping causes whites to think even more poorly of blacks than many already do.

The reason the white liberal readers of Salon are up in arms about this pathetic "article," is because whites know all too well how close to the surface their racism is.

In protesting, they are saying: *Erin - it's okay if you have nothing intelligent to offer the world, but don't go around representing the best that black journalists have to offer. You only taint Michelle Obama with your self-hatred masquerading as "you go, girl"!*

This reminds me of that inane Debra Dickerson article that Joan Walsh ran last year. The premise of that similarly misguided piece was that: Obama isn't black enough.

As one would expect, the article - which also drew hundreds of angry letters in salon - was irrelevant to the public discourse.

Joan Walsh is practicing the absolute worst kind of affirmative action. Instead of running thought-provoking, truly insightful, funny articles by intelligent journalists who happen to be black, she is choosing lower-caliber, "look-at-me-I'm-black" writers to write about bubble butts and Obama's speech patterns and skin tone.

This is an insidious form of racism.

One black woman said she thought the whites' over-reaction was amusing.

If she had white skin, she would understand what we know as whites, which is this:

Black self-hatred perpetuates racism among whites.

GBT, who is black and who made the statement above, knows that this you-have-a-big-butt-like-mine bullshit is Kaplan's low self-esteem in action.

Very few white readers take Debra Dickerson or Erin Kaplan seriously - as evidenced by the hundreds of letters from whites, expressing their disgust that these women only seem capable of having shallow, little thoughts about minutia rather than substantive thoughts about topics that matter.

If that's black progress, more power to you Erin. But just remember, Joan Walsh is not your friend. She is your enemy and I believe she is racist. Your friends are the white people who are up in arms and who are profoundly and deeply embarrassed for you.

It's wonderful for you that Michelle's butt makes you feel better about your own, but that's not an article; it's a diary entry.

This piece personifies why whites (rightly or wrongly) have a deep discomfort with affirmative action.

Joan Walsh commissioned an affirmative action piece, and the white readers are squirming.

The American public showed their great distate for affirmative action by actually voting for the best candidate.

Condi Rice has it all.

I think that Condi Rice is an accomplished woman in her own right. She to my knowledge is not a politician, she has been an analyst and a hard working Sec. of State.

You don't hear too much of how many minorities Bush appointed to his staff do you. Double standard.

Colin Powell, Rice even the wretched Gonzalez ... oh well I am sure we will have to read Ad nauseam of Obama's choices.

oh come on-folks you saw the title of the article..

why read it and waste your precious time to post your objections if you dont like to the concept of someone writing about behinds? salon produces lots of articles on lots of topics, let the sistas enjoy seeing their bootays take their place in the sun!

Find your own self-respect

People need to find self-respect from within themselves, not from the appearances of others.

Check out what a group of black women and men have to say about this article

http://creoleindc.typepad.com/rantings_of_a_creole_prin/2008/11/dear-erin-aubry.html

That was truly some ignant azz shit. True enough, this may have been an off-colored remark I may have made amongst my gal pals, but never in public and damnsure not published.

I'm shamed.

WHY?????

Posted by: naijamodel | November 18, 2008 at 11:46 AM

Wow that was pretty fuckin ignorant. The stupid bitch even had the nerve to say Obamas win wasnt that big of a deal. If you have seen any of the pictures of blacks getting sprayed with fire hoses and dogs being sicced on us then yes your ignorant ass would realize that yes it was a big fucking deal. Jeeze people make me wonder.

This goes beyond fucknuttery. I'm so pissed off, if I had a subscription to, or read her trashy little magazine I'd cancel it. Have we ever had a magazine article talking about a First Lady's body parts? Shouldn't that be a clue that perhaps there's a reason why it's never been done before. Honestly, this isht makes my temples throb. Nope, gotta send that heffa an email to tell her what a dumb, ignorant cow I really think she is.

More reactions of blacks to the article

http://creoleindc.typepad.com/rantings_of_a_creole_prin/2008/11/dear-erin-aubry.html

Had a whyte person written this, our whole community would have been up in arms. The fact that a sister wrote this makes this even more deplorable.

Michelle Obama is an accomplished, intelligent woman. To dedicate an entire article pontificating on her azz is really pathetic. She should write for KING.

The editors at Salon obviously must have EXTREMELY low standards to let this horrible mess be published. The author comes across as small, silly and utterly simple. I started to leave a comment, but she's gotten too many already, in my opinion. I would prefer that she and that rag just fade away.

Posted by: SunnyJ | November 18, 2008 at 02:48 PM

This has to be the dumbest, most ridiculous irrelevant drivel I've had the displeasure of reading in a minute. They actually pay this chick to write??

I didn't make it all the way through. I just kept thinking it had to get better and skipped forward a bit. Did it over and over. Two pages of BS. They oughta be ashamed for printing that mess.
