  • To bash Obama Supporters, let's just use the Hillary script verbatim!

This article is pure Hillary-speak; "crazed" Obama supporters unduly "bashing" Hillary??? My God! Would it be possible to spin faster?

If you had at least gone beyond simple Hillary-supplied pointless anecdotes, you might have had something to write about. But frankly, this article is completely worthless, except to show how far Salon has fallen into the Hillary camp, by even letting this drivel go through the editorial process.

If you want to show that "young women" are "tired" of the Hillary-"bashing" (I don't believe it actually exists; there is a lot of criticism of Hillary, but criticism does not equal "bashing"), you should come up with hard research, not a bunch of emails and anecdotes.

Also, this constant complaining from the Hillary camp about being "bashed" is quite unseemly coming from feminists. Playing the victim is just about the most un-feminist thing a woman could do... And I can tell you that I, for one, is REALLY tired of Hillary and her "crazed" followers constantly using the victim card (You see, I have the right to say that of myself, because I know for a fact that I hold that opinion; you don't have the right to speak for "young women" in general, because you, quite simply, DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT YOUNG WOMEN THINK, BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED TO FIND OUT).

  • Joan, is this you?

And yet another article about how, if you're male and not voting for Hillary you are sexist...hey Salon writers, try this as an angle, perhaps some of the males voting for Obama are doing so because we see Clinton (and when I say Clinton I mean both of them as they are a package deal) representing a step back into the vitriol and pessimism that represents politics for the past fifteen years. Add in the money grubbing, power grabbing, corporate licking sleaze factor and I'd vote for a fungoid infested tree over them. The idea that Hillary is somehow better for the country than anyone else is laughable, she might eek out a 50.5% majority which will then unite the right wingers to vehemently oppose her and her policies, hurt any chances of a overwhelming majority in Congress, empower local Republican elections and stick this nation into another four years of stagnation.

And as the nomination slips further and further away from her the Clinton political machine has made no bones about how they would be willing to drive the Democratic party into the dust rather than bow out gracefully and unite it to put an end to eight miserable years of Republican domination.

I don't vote for or against people because of their gender and though I won't deny that will occur (as well as voting based on race) the amount of "it's all sexism" being screamed by Salon is insulting, not just to us men but to both genders. I do think the time has come when this country is comfortable with being led by a woman (there are more woman governors than there have been black governors) but not this woman, not at this time.

You got cut off in traffic?

    Ahem.

  • Wow what delicious bait this was

Seriously, weren't we done with this? We already had two hacky articles on this very topic (both pro-Clinton, by the way, despite the fact that many Obama supporters are women), both of which resulted in hundreds of letters, seemingly most of which proclaiming how poor the articles were. This article, while not providing anything new, has provoked the same response.

Is it the number of hits the website gets? Oh well, I guess I can't blame the Salon people for wanting to make a few more dollars even if it means lowering of journalistic standards by building up the straw man of rampant sexism among the "Obamabots."

On a separate note to my fellow Obamatrons. If anyone could catalogue the various ways to insult members of the Obama cult, please let me know. I think we should start embracing these wonderful examples of wit.

And furthermore, no more use of "Clintonistas." We like the Sandanistas. The Contras were the enemy.

  • @Taliesan

I live in Collegeville, we're kind of an anti-gun community.

When they say the primary is going to be a knife fight they aren't kidding! Of course the irony would be sweeter if the Clinton supporter had stabbed the Obama supporter in the back.

  • Interesting analysis, but ----

It's an interesting analysis but I think it may be an over-analysis of the situation. As a woman and ardent Obama supporter, I based my decision on who was the best person to lead this country out of the mess that the Bush Administration has left us. It had nothing to do with gender or race. Did you ever consider that more and more people may be gender/race blind and basing their decision on an evaluation of each candidates stance on the issues?

In my opinion, Hillary Clinton is not currently the right person for the job at hand. I believe that Barack Obama is the only one who can restore our good name in the world and get this country back on track. It won't be easy but his ability to inspire us to believe in ourselves is enough to get the momentum going. Hillary Clinton simply does not have that ability. Thanks.

  • @mdlewis

As a fellow dewey-eyed messianic hoping follower of Obama I feel compelled to remind you, we've all joined a cult by being his supporters. There was no rationale thought involved, we all just said, he speaks nicely, looks snappy in a suit and thought, I hope he does well and like the drones we are marched into line.

Your post is very close to independent thought which is frowned upon. Please contact your local Obama office to get the proper speaking points for responding to sexism charges.

  • Oh my God, 44 pages of letters and still going --

I swear, the guy who suggested that this article was written just to get the Salon readership "riled up" (somewhere back about page 15, and now mdlewis points out the same thing just a few letters ago) has to be right. The benefit to the Salon finances must be substantial, all these advertising views.

This impassioned silliness by Traister can't be sincere.
