  • Proving Heath Ledger was a crack fiend

    Amerigo,

Look, either way, we will probably never know for sure if Ledger was an addict using prescription drugs to get off of harder drugs, a "recreational" drug user, or an unfortunate prescription drug addict. The fact is, it's all speculation. The only people who might know for sure are his parents and his close friends and his ex-wife and they aren't talking right now and probably will never talk. If Ledger was an addict, kept his addiction to himself; he never ran around carrying someone else's cocaine in his pocket, smashing up cars, or doing anything that would give the tabloids any reason to write about him before he died. What his story can show is that even "functional" drug addicts can die from playing around with drugs, which I think is important for any young person to know.

As someone who worked for while in the periphery of Hollywood, drugs are so prevelant over there I'd be more surprised he didn't do rails at a party or smoke a whole bunch of pot. I never went out a night in LA without someone offering me some sort of illegal drug, and I was hanging out with people who worked behind the scenes, at production companies and as assistants. The truth is, the folks who are really screwed up on drugs in Hollywood are probably the ones we don't know anything about. They aren't acting out; they are too fucked up to go out.
