After shelling out $1,300 on a vet bill, I had to wonder: How much is too much to pay for your pet?

I just don't understand the whole idea. Cats should be out there hunting mice, not cuddled in some basket waiting for a meal. Humans are distorting the lives of animals by making them into "pets". I can understand a working relationship with animals - cats keeping rats under control, dogs herding sheep, etc. And I have no problem with breeding animals for food as long as they are given good living conditions and killed quickly and painlessly (I know the conditions are terrible and this should change). But to treat an adult cat as a "baby" is something that I really don't understand. Same with fish in an aquarium or birds in a cage - let them out!
