Susan Wicklund has received death threats and worn a bulletproof vest to work. But what really scares her, she writes in "This Common Secret," is the war on reproductive rights.
  • Baby = (lovely) parasite, potentially life threatening.

To those people who are anti-abortion:

Childbirth is the most dangerous time in a woman’s life.

In Africa, it’s estimated that a quarter of a million women each year die from being pregnant/giving birth. Modern medicine’s made it safer for us, obviously, but a pregnant woman still has to temporarily lose control over her body. The foetus grows like a little parasite inside the mother. Among other things, it strips her bones of calcium (if her diet doesn’t provide enough) for its own bones, and likewise, her brain of essential fatty acids EFA’s for its developing brain. She’ll have to risk stuff like a ripped vagina, permanent damage to the muscles for bladder control, dangerously high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, etc etc etc. She may develop post-natal depression, may give birth to a disabled baby requiring life-long care. It’s such a profoundly and permanently life-changing experience.

You can’t impose that on somebody. It has to be a willing sacrifice. It really is up the woman, nobody else has the right to dictate. Especially not those who want to breed to fill a 'more of' category, be it republicans, christians, white people, chicken farmers or patisserie chefs.
