Letters to the Editor

Letters posted here are associated with the following article:
The glee with which Matthews and other angry male pundits prematurely danced on Hillary's grave made me -- for one night only -- a Clinton supporter.

  • Women Must Possess More Innate Sympathy Than Men.

Since what I have experienced is similar to what this writing conveys, I decided to repost what I posted somewhere else here as the following:

I am an Obama supporter, but a fair-minded one.

After Obama's Iowa win, I realized Hillary bashing was suddenly in vogue. Mainstream media as well as Obama supporters on many blogs went overboard to put down Hillary--almost reaching a point of verbal personality assasination while praising Obama so highly that he almost can do no wrong.

This actually made me sympathize with Hillary because I could understand what type of pressure she was under--being attacked from all corners, while she still has to work day and night to appeal to the potential voters. If I were her, I would have collapsed already. In the meantime, the doubt also occurred. I thought no matter how inspiring Obama is, he is still politician in this political game to grab the power. He can be ruthless too--even though subtly he has consistently belittled Hillary. He is lucky because he is young and without bagage, so he doesn't need to go negative, which makes him look better and make his rival look less better. Also, with all my admiration for Obama, I can sense he is also a politician craving for power and glory, and he can be arrogant too.

I am still leaning toward Obama not because I hate Hillary like many other people do. But because I simply believe that it is for the health of our democracy, we should not let the same group of people in power for too long.

If media is surprised by this NH outcome and embarassed by their inaccuracy and rush to kill, I as an individual is also surprised by my own changing mind in a matter of days between Iowa and NH races--maybe we women by nature are more sympathetic.

  • Out of Respect for Women Everywhere................

and the intelligent and great women in my life.............

I will pretend that i never read this article. I can only sit here in disgust as i read all the letters written here in favor of it.

What this article, and the letters that follow does, is fall right into every sexist males dream as evidence of womens "emotionality over reason" or how it portrays feminists as truly narcissistic little girls. To vote in an election for the most important position in the world, especially after the attrocities committed by the Chimp in Chief, based on nothing more than some imagined "payback" to inconsequential blowhards on TV is truly demoralizing and an insult to intelligent women everywhere.

Not to mention that i'm still waiting for any evidence- any at all- that HRC was "picked on" because she was a woman. It actually flies in the face of all the evidence. Bill was the most persecuted president in modern office- was he a woman? Gore was saddled with all the same baggage as HRC- that Edwards himself is the one who recieved the most overtly gender related insult so far (Breckgirl), disproves that the animosity towards HRC is based on her sex.

Why is HRC hated by the media- and the right? Well, because Bill was the most hated president. He was percieved as having unfairly won the election because of Perot- thats what started the hatefest to begin with. Quickly after his :dont ask dont tell" became the icing on the cake. Its been downhill since.

But again, i see no evidence that HRC was "piled on" because she was a girl.

And for all the supposed "feminists" here who love to call themselves that. Take a moment and think of the rights of Afgani and Iraqi women that have been set back hundreds of years thanks in part to HRCs Iraq war vote. Not to mention those who have lost their lives and thier children.....Oh, i guess those women don;t count when adding up the "feminist" tally.

That HRC voted for the war is enough to disqualify her. Everyone who has ever sad one bad thing about Bushs war is a hypocrite if they do not extend the same blame to ALL the senators who voted to support it.

I am a man who supports womens rights and loves to. But i willl not support anyone who pretends to care about women, while voting to drop bombs and set them back a half a world away merely because of a political calculation. HRC, Edwards Bush and every politician who enabled that war should be IN JAIL. Granted, with a bit of a shorter sentence.

Just do me a favor if you vote for HRC, or Edwards (although he at least admits to a msitake)- don't pretend to hate Bush and his war so much. You are now voting for it after the fact.

If you doubt what i'm saying, even a bit, just remeber Madelaine Albrights remark about Iraqi children- the very same Albright standing up there on stage with HRC in Iowa..........

"-Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it."

  • On another minor topic

Um, I know this is all very exciting, but has anyone noticed that Bush is, like, trying to start a war with Iran? It's great to be forward-thinking, but that guy still has his finger on the button for another year or so. Plus, I think he's one of those types who are trying to hasten the apocalypse. Best keep an eye on him.

Seriously, Salon, can we start to have some news and analysis on other topics now? I don't think I can go through this with every state primary.

  • Good point, captainlarab

And Hillary has already said she won't negotiate with Iran, so it looks like we'll get more of the same if she wins the presidency. Anyone who actually looks at how she votes instead of paying attention only to her gender and last name would recognize that.

There. Now we're back on topic.
