Children are not puppies. Anyone who uses puppies as an example when talking about adoption is an idiot. How many retarded kids have you adopted? Dog breeders kill off puppies that do not conform to breed standards - don't you charge less for your puppies that aren't "show quality" - to get people to take them off your hands? There is nothing similar to parents and children and puppies and buyers.
This judgment and guilt and nonsense about "nurturing a human being" is bullshit. Having children is ultimately a selfish act. Adopting or squeezing out your own, it doesn't matter. No one wants an unhealthy child. No one wants an ugly child. If we could really choose, we'd always choose the healthy, smart, pretty child. That is the part that is "natural", as in natural selection. The natural bond between an adult and their biological child helps overcome this, so we can love and care for our stupid, ugly, sick or otherwise imperfect children. You'd have to work really hard to feel that way about a child that did not come from your own body, and there is nothing to feel badly about in deciding that you don't want to take on the burden of a sick child if you don't have to. Honest article, and you made the right choice.
