For three years, I "reported" on Elvis and aliens for the Weekly World News. Now it's published its last issue. The checkout aisle -- and my career -- will never be the same.

  • My Eight Year Old Will Be Devastated

Whenever we are in the checkout line at the supermarket my eight year old seeks out the Weekly World News and will read as many stories as he can before I'm done. When he and my wife get back from camping he is going to be devastated.

Now what's he going to read, People?

Weekly World News is one thing but I don't think his imagination will stretch that far.

  • You'll fit right in

From the Weekly World News to Salon.

    Surprise, surprise.

Sydney Blumenthal columns have a lot in common with WWN.

    Congrats, you'll fit right in.

  • Conspiracy?

This publication was obviously shut down by a conspiracy of aliens from Brazil and the Knights Templar.

  • Now the WWN

    Next the NYT.

  • @NotOrbitBoy

...as I suspected you read both...

  • I Knew It (Author comment)

Stan Sinberg, author of the article, here. I knew there was a lot of affection and fondness for WWN, and your letters confirmed that. People also wrote me privately, recounting favorite headlines from years ago. Someone asked if the pay was better than at "real" newspapers. That was the Enquirer, not WWN. On the other hand, I didn't have to sell my soul writing about Jen and Brad's travails. The odd thing to think about is, with the zillions of publications out there, there's now NO other place for stories like "Airline Accidentally Serves Tasty Meal," and "Bush Captures Obama, Not Osama." And I think that's a damned shame.
