Grow up. People aren't obliged to agree with each other, but the best way to change people's mind is rarely achieved by being petulent or peevish or bummed-out. It's by being mature, expansive and wise...and who knows, maybe you'll change your mind some day and find that much to your surprise,your understanding of issues that get you all hot under the collar now seem different as you mature. As a matter of fact, if your opinions don't change as you mature, you may want to question yourself as to whether you are infact aware of the world around you. A close reading of history will reveal that such is often the case.

There is no lawyer worth his salt who doesn't know, and who didn't find out quickly, exactly what he can and can't say to other attorneys in his office. It takes all of 20 minutes to two weeks, maximum, to figure out exactly where the locus of power lies.

If I wanted to stay in this job, I would completely ignore this oaf. I would not engage with him at all, and I do mean at all. I would not pointedly slam my door. I would not reason with him. I would not make pronouncements. I would not elicit opinions. I would simply observe, both him and how others behave around him, and I would only talk to him when it involved a task I could not complete in the best interests of the client without talking to him. And then I would keep the interaction to a minimum.

In short, I would not want to stay in this job. I would only stay until the moment I found somewhere else to work. And in the meantime, I would think about what I truly wanted to do with the rest of my life. Yeah, I really would. I'd ask those existential questions you are not supposed to ask after adolescence. And I would come up with some answers, because life really is short, you know? To be next to someone like this idiot for a little while can be very beneficial. It may be just the push you need to confront what you yourself have been doing with these ever-dwindling days, and to decide to do something better.
