I really think we are cursed now, because I am not Greek. How do I remove the curse?

  • As a Greek-American...

... I just had to crack up when I read this letter. Yes, Salonistas, Greek curses ARE real. Spend 12 yrs being married into a Grk family and I'm sure you'll agree (even 2nd generation).

More seriously tho, sometimes a kind of small village, ethnic, us vs them mentality sets in among immigrants. When you bring a non-Grk home to the family s/he will be carefully scrutinized to make sure they 'act right' -- in the case of a daughter-in-law, this means humble, quiet, and non-intrusive ... after which you will be accepted into the family, and you can proceed with the dirty jokes, etc.

It sounds like LW got off on the wrong foot here, and let me tell you, all the emotion and melodrama she is throwing off feeds the 'curse' like crazy. Going to a GO priest, etc, is only going to perpetuate this war. LW needs to fight fire with water.

My own family used to drive me crazy until i learned buddhist meditation philosophy and techniques to become nonreactive to the crazy sh*t they throw around. Something similar is worth a try -- in other words, getting all hung up on the CURSE is only going to make it worse.

  • To the LW

Just keep in mind that it's bad luck to be superstitious.

  • Two Words

    Voodoo doll.

  • So where is your husband in all this?

Has he been standing spinelessly by while you've done chores for his family? Did he stand there like a mute while his mother's bile and spittle slid down his face? Has he ever stood up for you to his family against their venom? Does he have balls, or are they sealed in a jar and locked in some magic cabinet in his mother's kitchen?

That's pretty important information for getting an encompasing response. Going with what we have in your letter all we can say is do what you can to reverse your superstitions, tell your husband to get a spine, keep your kids away from this woman, and take comfort in the fact that your m-i-l is mortal and will one day be dead.

  • My Mother In Law Put a Curse on Us and Spat in My Husbands Face

Hey, this is an easy one. If your mother in law "believes" she can cast a spell, she will believe one could be "cast" on her. Tell her you and your husband carefully wiped her spittle from his face, that you kept the cloth with her bodily fluids on it. Create a "scarecrow" looking figurine. It can be small, the size of something that could fit in your hand, or later, in your purse. Take a piece of her clothing and put a handkerchief in it with piece of it sticking out of the scarecrow like looking figure you create with a head, arms, and legs. Let a piece of the handkerchief stick out of each apendage. The more crude it looks the better. Tied of rough looking twine around the wait, at the arms, and neck. If you have little pieces she gave you, like an earing, or something she would recognize as hers, stick a piece inside and leave something outside so she can recognize it as hers. Fill it with odd things like grass and some sticks, maybe a pebble or two. Create a place in your home where you park the figureine an surround it with some candles. Tell your mother you contacted a voodoo priestess from Katrina ravanged New Orleans and that this was the counter curse she gave you. Tell your wicked mother in law that until she repents and begs your forgiveness you will keep this effigy of her and stick hat pins in it. If she has arthritis, have one sticking out of where ever she complains of pain. Warn her that you now have "powerful voodoo" and she better retract her curse, repent, and start going to church to beg God for his forgiveness for being so vile and wicked as to put a curse on, of all people, her own family. And that she better stop interfering in your marriage if she knows what's good for her. Sincerely, A Voodoo Priest in New Orleans.

  • cancel it out

LW, I was horrified by your letter. I know about the sort of cultures where curses and superstition are prevalent. I had a close family member pass curses on me quite often while I was growing up, and you have to be very strong to resist absorbing the sort of hatred and evil intention that comes with that - very difficult for a child to do.

Your mother-in-law has behaved like an evil witch, but that doesn't mean she actually has the power to curse you.The important thing is that you 'feel' and believe you've been cursed, which means your sub-conscious will draw you into manufacturing 'evidence' of the curse. So, to that end, you need to perform some sort of ritual that's powerful enough to over-ride that belief. I'd agree with the other posters who've suggested a blessing from a priest. If you're not Christian, then you might want to explore other possibilities till you find something else you'd trust would have the power to lift the curse. Just google 'curses and psychic attack' until you find something suitable.

    Like these for example:

And if you can, put as much physical distance as possible between you and your toxic in-laws.

  • Something About Curses...

One crucial active ingredient in any curse is negativity: hate, fear, uncertainty, loss of confidence, feelings of inadequacy, etc. Curses "work" by implanting and/or feeding negativity. The solution is to remove all connection with such negative energy from one's life. Stay away from the evil family, do what's right for yourself day-to-day, nurture a positive and grounded relationship with your God(s), do nice and helpful things for people who really appreciate it, maybe get involved with whatever charitable operations your church or other religious/spiritual group has going. Ritual helps too, but only if it's backed up by relevant action.

An important question is, how does hubby feel about his mother spitting in his face, and what is he doing in reponse? If he's not standing up for himself and covering your six on this, then you have a major problem.
