I love being a grad student stripper but I'm worried about fallout from family and professors.
  • This is laughable...

Assuming this is real (which I don't), the 1st. question is...how was this not an issue before? Is it just because of the PhD thing?

I agree with other folks out there, you already torpedoed yourself on this one (he said torpedo...uh huhuhuhuh). It's already common knowledge that you did this. Unless you can wear a catwoman mask now or some shit like that to disguise your identify, you're pretty much SOL.

But I guess the real question is: what do you plan to do with your PhD anyway? PhDs vs. MBAs, on a dollar-per-dollar basis, really aren't worth the added cost vs. the money you make. True, there are some jobs you can only have with a PhD, where an MBA won't cut it...but after being in the Corporate World for 15 years now, PhDs basically = too expensive to hire in the job market. So unless your goal was to be a college professor, is all this fussing over a PhD really worth it, when compared to that juggernaut call the Monthly Bills?

And to those folks saying that certain members of the intelligencia will never take her seriously if she does this...my reply to that would be: if that's the way they treat her, and it's that big of a privacy/personal choice issue to her, then why would she WANT to be part of that elitest-fuck world anyway? Why bother getting the PhD if it means living in snobbery?

So yeah, since this job pays the bills and YOU don't have a problem with it, why stop now? You claim you don't have any other (legal) options to choose from given your circumstances, you can't run to mommy and daddy for money...so why worry about this decision any more?
