...but you are about the last person I could possibly think of who gives off the Happiness Vibe.

I declared an open marriage, much to his surprise, and I never had so much fun in my life as I had throwing it in his face. When it was clear to him that I wasn't going to play the faithful stand-by-your-man-wife to his cheating crap, he actually had to go to the hospital five times with chest pains. The doctors kept telling him to go home, that it was all in his head. He finally agreed to go to marriage counseling but it was too late. I already had one foot out the door. He finally ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. I devotedly visited him everyday, but I called the movers. By the time he got home, the only thing left was the bed, the refrigerator, and the stove.
I also took the Kugerrands he had been hiding from the IRS. He didn't dare accuse me. I didn't just get mad. I got really, really even.
I am not the kind of woman anymore that a guy can fuck over. That marriage was one of the transforming experiences of my life. I am actually grateful to my ex. He taught me how to fight dirty and win.

Thank you for relating your feelings in this letter/tangent thread. Every time I start to get in a serious relationship I really need to read stuff like this to remind myself what American women are REALLY thinking.
Thanx again. Now it's time to dump my current girlfriend & move on to a new one.

and further demonstrates what I stated earlier. Most american women are full of shit, will stab each other and their men in the back anytime they get the opportunity. To the lady who stayed and stole from her husband. You just showed what a bottom feeder and loser you are and that you didn't have the guts to leave. No man in his right mind would be with you, ever.

I didn't steal from him. It was a community property state. Half was mine. In the end, it was about 50-50, but I had the pleasure of making it clear to him that he couldn't get away with cheating on me multiple times, lying to me, and expecting me to take it. And knowing what an asshole he was, I knew he would try to screw me financially if he knew I was planning to leave. I just beat him to filing. I worked just as hard in that marriage as he did. I worked a full time job and he never lifted a finger in the house. So, in effect, I had two jobs.
As to the way I treat other women, I have never (knowingly) had sex with a married man. I respect other people's marriages. What had my ex-husband so panicked is that I decided to have plenty of say about what went on in the marriage. I might not have been able to stop him from cheating on me and from lying to me, but I could sure bring it all in the open. I simply said that since it was clear that he was not going to be faithful then we should have an open marriage. At first, he agreed. He did not think I would really go through with it, but I did. He was a phony and a hypocrite.
It's in Law, that once a contract is broken, you are no longer held to it. He broke the contract first and repeatedly. It's that simple.
Dover, you are a hypocrite. To you, it is okay for men to cheat, but not for women to. It is okay for men to hide income from their wives, but not for wives to get their fair share. You come to this thread with all your crap about abuse and women not serving time in prison, but you don't give a shit about abuse. I don't believe you give a damn about what happens to the LW's teenage stepson.
Anonymous 10:39, if you are cheating on your girlfriend, why should expect good behavior from her? Women do not owe more loyalty to men than they get in return. Are you afraid women are thinking that they don't have to be men's victims anymore? Increasingly, that is exactly what they are thinking.

You are totally awesome. Ben Dover thinks there's nothing ethically wrong with dumping a woman one day before the 10th anniversary, when she's legally entitled to a bigger share (which, ethically, she has probably always been entitled to). In fact, he GLOATS over these aging, loser serial marrying billionaires (who probably wouldn't even notice if their wife got $100 million, $200 million, and then will be schmucky enough to marry again anyway).
And he brings out the morality card about lying and cheating--what the fuck?

I have never said it was OK for anyone to cheat, man or woman. If you are in a relationshit and unhappy or feel wronged, get out. Why stay unless you are loser with few, if any, redeeming qualities. The funny thing is most of you ladies would rather stay in a shitty relationshit than be a man (or an adult) and move on. You like the chaos. You are just justifying the shitty things you do. It sucks to be you. That you are loser and justifying your actions is your problem. To the other fat fuglies, read what was written. I said most american women. The exception proves the rule. Most of you are sucking the same tit that says gimme but will never hold yourself, or other women, to the same level of accountability, liability and responsibility you hold men to or that men are held to by society, etc. You just can't cut it. If you didn't have a man to blame for your bad decisions you all be very confused and suicidal. Take responsibility for your actions. They are your choices. You selected your mates. You were adults.
