  • Assumptions ...

Why is it automatically assumed that being "drug-free" is better than using drugs judiciously? After all, wasn't that what "Dad" of yore used to do? After a long, tense, and hard day at the office, Dad would come home, mix himself two Rob Roys and sit in his favorite chair to watch his favorite show while Mom got dinner ready. Then, relaxed, he would be genial to his 2.3 kids, considerate of his wife, and all would be well as the sun set slowly in the West.

If this is what Dad could do during the 40 years of his working life, what's to say that a modern Dad can't do the same, only with cannabis as the drug of choice?

The legal issue is one that has to be forced in the teeth of the authorities, unfortunately. When a government enforces outrageous laws, it always requires personal sacrifice to put an end to the injustice. The beatings, imprisonments, the extortionate forfeitures - even the mean-spirited and vindictive laws that bar federal education assistance - are abuses of the people by the government, no less than African Americans were abused, set upon, and imprisoned by the government before Civil Rights. MacK sneeringly dismisses references to Rosa Parks, but the two issues address the same problem.

The moral question was aptly phrased by MacK: "By the way, when you teach your kid that sometimes lawmakers make mistakes and it's therefore OK to disobey some laws, who gets to decide that issue?" Well, who decided for the Colonial Patriots who plotted to overthrow the lawful government? Who decided that the Jim Crow laws were wrong and that they should be abolished, even in the teeth of police dogs, firehoses, bulllets, and the lynching noose? How did the German resistance, and the resistance movements in occupied Europe decide that some of their laws were evil, robbing them of their civil rights? In each of these cases, liberty carrried a heavy price. The cost of cannabis legalization is borne by the fully 700,000 people arrested each year for cannabis offences, the thousands upon thousands who are thrown in prison for cannabis "crimes," and all the others whose lives are destroyed by being branded as criminals. That is the price being paid every day, right now, for liberation from this particular variant of government repression and abuse.

  • Forget druggie mom, listen to the kid

Mom doesn't have a job. Probably can't hold a job, and certainly can't pass a drug test. She's stoned all the time, and spends her days jerking off to Dead-wannabe groups. What a role model! What a great person to emulate! Kid knows something is wrong, begs mom not to be a druggie. Listen to poster "jabcatz," who has been there, and done that, with druggie parents:

In another 3 yrs, he'll be on his own with whatever tools he has gained at home...or not. He's fifteen and finally old enough to speak his mind that is mature enough to tell him that his mom is a wasted stoner, and that he wants and deserves a self actualized, emotionally present parent. No excuses, mom. Grow up!

Yes, grow the fuck up. I'm not in any way a conservative, but sometimes liberals make me sick. It's all about mom, her masturbation with the pipe, her druggie experience that trumps everything else. God forbid that the kids should enter into the equation. The fifteen year old boy is just a moralistic little twit. Piss on his needs. Given a choice between the kid and the pipe, the pipe wins.

  • Never Before In History...

...has any one 15-year-old been so often compared to Hitler!!!

  • Hey, what happened to that crazy anonymous European, er, cannabis maven...?

I got an actual substance-free buzz reading his loopy shit in a kind of Vincent Price voice in my head. "...that despicable country." (Oops, that was Daffy Duck.) Here's to MackK for taking on his ludicrous (though entertaining) bloviation so tirelessly. Perhaps it's the middle of the night in his neck of the world and he'll be back with more juicy bombast after breakfast. If not, we win. U-S-A!

  • Pot smokers are scary

I went to Berkeley and everybody smoked a little pot. But that was some time ago and I haven't really thought about pot much since. It seems, though from reading these letters, that people who kept with the pot smoking got really addicted and have come to see pot as the center piece of their lives, not as something to do on a lark. They also seem to have lost all proportionality equating the kid criticizing his mother with an attempt to take away their own pot, possibly confusing the concept of taking away mother's pot with mother taking away my pot. I'm sure it's too late for mom or most of these posters to stop using pot. I guess I just wasn't aware how strong the addiction was or that it lasted your entire lifetime.

  • 15 year olds

Yes, they are judgmental. They are also very needy, in a "right now" way. They will do their own thing for days, then suddenly need alot of attention. This doesn't bode well for Stoner Mom's ability to respond. Another thing teens do is slip into hyper-chatty drive at night. If Stoner Mom is fresh into a big buzz in the evening, poor kid.

I hate D.A.R.E. and I am pro-legalization, but I can see the kid's point IF (big if) the situation is one in which he feels neglected. LW should ask Mom if she can talk to the kid. If he feels neglected, LW can promise to relate this to Mom. If kid is just being a bossy little meanie, it may do him good to hear "Auntie" point out that Mom is only human.

  • Well, there is some good to come from this dysfunctional family

We now have one more southern, repelican, certain, narcissistic future DARE instructor

...who will (certainty), in all like-li-hood (doubt), destroy far more organisms lives than a gross of burners in a mad fury

...actually I was kidding - a mad fury while a common side effect of conservative certainers (Bushonics), is not one of the side effects of this nutritionional supplement in question.

These parents can and should be arrested, for stupidly trusting that duplicitous bitch across the street...

Karma - sweethearts...all YOU certain, logical, repelicans and progressives.

...certainty is self abuse...mental mastabatory excess.

...and just as valuable of an ejaculate as your 'opinions'

Mine however has value because it is considerate. (I'm so intelligent)

Consideration is possibly the only quality our specie has developed that may accomodate the long-term survival of our judgemental murderous selves...a chance to avoid the bedlam and destruction of certainty - a trait far too prevalent in what must (certainty) eventually become a non-competive society.

Support a privately owned jail in you neighborhood...or you may get hurt by the bad guys and non-believers

...support the death penalty...we can convict anyone you don't like

Support George Bush...certainty and stupidity, a prescription for psychotic progress, and world domination....

    Let us pray...

Our father whom aren't in heaven, so much energy (universe) wasted for so little joy (what is joy?), it's clear you are depressed angry and vindictive, here have a hit, you'll feel much better.
