Letters to the Editor

run forrest run!
About 15 years ago, Dear LW, I was faced with situation eerily similar. I've since lived in NYC, LA, SF and East Bay. I almost married a cop in that tiny town where I come from, while attempting to work as a creative in a dying industry. He begged me not to leave when I got my ticket to go West.
When I return now for a visit I find an alternate universe where time does stop and people forget to check media to see what's happening and how to dress, and hell, they even forget their dental appointments. Not all small towns are the same and some people dig the familiarity and closeness of the hood there.
Truth is the guy I would have ended up with is still there plus 30 lbs, (minus some weight in gray matter), unemployed, and spends a good amount of time complaining about liberals ruining our country. Actually he blames everyone for a life wasted at 40. He lost his house, procreated and got into some trouble with a local woman ...and that would have been me. I meant nothing to him after all and we wouldn't even be together had I stayed.
Get the picture?
It's not a picture you fit into. I knew it then and you know it now. With a letter like the one you wrote, you already know what to do. P.S. I met the love of my life in a big city and guess what, he came from a town just like ours. You never know, but if you don't find a way out, you never will.
