Pedophilia has become such an irrational fear in modern American culture that some people see it in something that is nothing more than a current fad. Shaved pubes don't make an adult into a child any more than sprouting hair makes an adolescent an adult.
This crazed fear of pedophilia is the modern equivalent of the fear of communism that gripped America after WWII. It's even being used to justify the same kind of prying and spying that we went through back in the McCarthy era. Unfortunately, I doubt that we'll have an Edward Murrow or a Joseph Welch to shut it down.
