Letters to the Editor

Disguised Vacation for Cary?
Has anyone else noticed that recently Cary's responses had been rather over-the-top, lengthy, anguished, and abstract, to the point of readers making inquiries and his subsequent acknowledgement that he's undergone a great deal of personal stress lately and realizes that it has shown up in his responses?
And...that along comes a LW with a question that he evidently wouldn't want to touch with an 8-foot hedge clipper (sorry), and can therefore toss out to his readers, thereby giving himself a break and taking himself off the hook?
Why else publish a letter that he has no intention of thinking about, much less responding to?
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, curmudgeonly, what have you, but while anything is, I s'pose, fair game for discussion, I find the highly personal matter of "short n' curlys" distasteful for this particular forum.
Styles and fashions tonsorial and sartorial come and go. What ever happened to a woman (or man) deciding what's best and most comfortable for his/her own body? Why are we dealing with this here?
I can just hear Cary saying "discuss amongst yourselves" while he pours himself a tall one, sits back in the summer heat, and decides whether he really wants to continue this column in the long run.
