    Many dictionaries list the slang definition of Neanderthal first before the anthropological:

    1: ill-mannered and coarse and contemptible in behavior or appearance; "was boorish and insensitive"; "the loutish manners of a bully"; "her stupid oafish husband"; "aristocratic contempt for the swinish multitude" [syn: boorish, loutish, neandertal, oafish, swinish] 2: relating to or belonging to or resembling Neanderthal man;

    Getting upset because I used the common cultural meaning of neanderthal isn't about anthropology or history, it's about someone being very defensive. ever heard "I resemble that remark"?
